Why did you choose your GW name?
Comments (85)I usually use a combination of mine and my husband's names. At other forums I am jdkline but I wanted to change it to a shortened version of my name here. d is the first letter of my first name and kline is my last name. 2008 is the year I joined gardenweb. I am a moderator at 2 other swap sites and thought I could fly under the radar here but I didnt change my name enough to do that. Every now and then one of the members will private message me and say....I saw you at garden web. LOL I love the people here and at the other site. Both sites are awesome. But I come here for my garden junk inspiration and to be with people who think of junk as gold as I do. This forum is so inspiring to me. I come and post for a while then I get busy and dont post for a while but I ALWAYS lurk at least. LOL The talent here is awesome and the people are very nice. I really admire any place I can go on the web that has such talent and harmony. Everyone here is so wonderful and caring and I think that's what makes it special for me. Calamity.........what a wonderful accomplishment!! I know your very proud of yourself. Deb...See MoreWhat new annuals did you try this year that you love?
Comments (24)Seniorita Rosalita is a Proven Winner cultivar. I think you have to buy the plants each year. But one plant becomes a nice clump. Salvia farinacea Victoria beside it. The other dwarf cleome are also Proven Winners. They were also striking, though not as dense a clump (slightly larger flowers). As I noted, someone thought it would be a good idea to pick them. While the taller cleome can be nice, they take much more room and, in my experience, soon become seedy. Seniorita has been blooming three months and is more beautiful than ever at about 26 inches....See MoreWhich type "dust" applicators do you use or recommend?
Comments (8)I believe that ash meant that researching the equipment is proactive...always a great idea to gather information and ideas ahead of time. Ash, I would totally invest in either of those little gadgets. As a matter of fact, I think I still have something very similar to the little one on top and have used it to apply diatomaceous earth. Regarding your comment about how to use a 'dust' or powder. Some products absolutely cannot be added to water. Unless your product clearly gives application directions for mixing in water, it must be applied as a dust (D). There are also dry powders that should only be mixed with water for use. Those are the wettable powders (WP), and the mixing directions will be on the label. AND there are some products that can be used both ways! But you will never, ever have to guess or experiment (and you shouldn't) because everything you need to know will be on the label. Report back and let us know which device you end up getting and how you like it....See MoreWeek 61: Why did you join GW?
Comments (53)Like many I joined because I found the best advice on this website. I've had to learn some things along the way and I find some satisfaction in trying to tell other people what I have learned before they find out by making a mistake. I really enjoy the pros on this site because they really do know what they are doing and don't hesitate to say so and sometimes they have a completely different reason for the same conclusion and that is always very interesting. But what I have appreciated most is the variety of people and the variety advice given (especially on the design and decorating side). I also enjoyed this weekly column, particularly when people post pictures from other parts of the country or from outside the country and I realize that life is just so different and so much the same. The part that has been hard to deal with is when the GW site joined Houzz, my perception of many of the Houzz users is that they have a great deal of money, an intense desire for perfection and very little time or patience as they pursue an expensive lifestyle, not because they are personally interested in such a lifestyle but because they can and feel the need to show that they can. Interestingly, I think that many of those members slowly find themselves drawn into the online community, as it is the community aspect of GW that is the most interesting. Thank you again for this week's post....See MoreUser
