Repair Stihl FS45 Trimmer or pitch it
Comments (12)1. Have you used treated fuel for use and storage if you use ethanol fuel? YES 2. Have you serviced it yearly (plug/filters) and given it good general overall look? NO - Checked plugs a couple and air filter a couple times over the years but not annually 3. Have you checked the fuel lines and primer bulb for no cracks/air tight fits? HAVE NOT DONE ANY CHECKS OTHER THAN NOTING THEY SEEM INTACT 4.Have you checked the basics needed to run fire/fuel/compression/exhaust (muffler spark arrest? NOT REALLY BUT SEE BELOW 5. If you do not know basics, do you have a friend, neighbor that knows the quick checks? NO 6.Most needed info related to your symptoms have been discussed with solutions, if you Google info/questions. 7. Approx how many hours of use per season? UNDER 10 - I run this around 3-4 times a month on average to trim grass on 2 sides of the house, around deck, and a couple other small spots the mower can't get to. Probably 10 to 15 min each time. I was going to just replace but watched a few videos and got a bit more ambitious. I removed spark arestor, did a more thoughrough job of cleaning spark plug and tried starting without air filter and using a little wd-40 as starting fluid (saw that on another web site). It now starts up and runs rough and slow. I tried adjusting carb but couldn't get it to run better than a fast idle. Any attempt to use it the motor dies - but at least the fact that it will start is promising (I think). From most of what I've read it sounds like the issue is the carb. I think I'm going to try taking it apart and cleaning it as I've seen on some youtube videos. Worst that will happen is I won't be able to re-assemble it in which case I'll either buy a new trimmer or decide to buy a new carb. Called local dealer and he wasn't too anxious to see a new carb - they said they'd have to order it and cost would be $50 tp $80. But I see these on Ebay from USA sources that can deliver in less than a week for under $30 (cheaper direct from the orient). Any thoughts would be appreciated....See MoreSpeaking of being new, where are you all from?
Comments (44)Yoo hoo golddust ~ Welcome to the other side LOL. I'm Nora from mid New York State. I've been married for 20 years and we have a 26 yo DS. DH and I got together when Eli was a little over 4 years old and we married when he was six. There is definitely truth in nurture vs. nature because they are like two peas in a pod ;o) We live on 7 idyllic acres in a small hamlet in southern Dutchess County with our pug, Tootie, and kitties Bitsy and Bundles. DS and his GF live in a cottage on our property, which is a blessing. We love to renovate anything that isn't nailed down and it seems that we're in a constant state of flux (no pun intended considering your metier). We also love to garden, which we do with fervor, though not always with as much success as we'd like. The earth tells us what it needs and most of the time we pay attention. But when we don't we learn early on that we should have listened to Mother Nature. Welcome!!...See MoreWhat do I need to adapt a TapMaster for Israel?
Comments (10)gellchom- The main problem with looking under the sink to examine the connections is that someone not familiar with plumbing will not be make to make a reliable assessment of the diameter and thread pitch. What I recommend is that you buy the TapMaster and then: get an adapter for the inlet fittings to convert from U.S. to metric, keeping as close to the same diameter as possible. For example, if the inlet fittings are 1/2" male, then you want an adapter that converts that to a metric male of about the same size. This is all complicated by the fact that the nominal pipe size refers to the inner diameter of the pipe, so, for example, 1/2" pipe actually has an outside diameter of about 0.84". A further problem is that Israeli metric pipe threads may be different from Israeli machine threads of the same nominal sizes. If you find this confusing, then you may wish to take the next approach. 2) Leave the purchase of fittings to the folks in Israel, as davidro1 suggests. Lastly, as thoughtful a gift as this is, consider whether the recipient may find it more trouble than it's worth to have your gift installed. It would not be good to give someone something like this and then have them spend the equivalent of a couple of hundred dollars to get it installed by a plumber....See MorePLEASE help me with my kitchen!! Comments (82)If you begin your kitchen transformation by painting the cabinets white (NOT antique white) and replace the handles/pulls with the old rubbed bronze ones that you mentioned, I think you would see a dramatic difference. Maybe even appreciate your counter tops and backsplash! Then for the second step, I would remove those corner cabinets and paint the walls a green color very similar to the color of the walls in the 7th photo that Jillius posted. FWIW, I don't care at all for the white subway tile backsplash. I would keep what you've got -- provided you paint the cabinets white. So that's paint (cabinets and walls) and removing the corner thingies, and I think it would make a h-u-g-e difference. Good luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
