Questions about Bradington Young quality
Comments (6)meg711, I do have occasional quality control issues with B-Y, but not enough to put me off the brand. Admittedly, I have a keen eye and am quick to find minor workmanship faults, probably because I work with this stuff six days a week and believe that premium furniture must meet a certain expectation in the craft. If they cannot work to a certain standard, then they should market themselves as middle of the road, rather than a premium brand. One thing for example that annoys me on B-Y is their bun feet are connected to the sofas and chairs by means of a single screw-in stud that 'spins' into an inset in the frame. Makes it easy to get on and off for delivery, but the metal insets sometimes fall out of the frame and then you can't get the leg on without making a repair and calling BY for a replacement inset (requires special tools to install). H&M's bunfeet are screwed on with (3) Square Drive wood screws per foot. Takes longer to get them off the piece, but they always go back on. No company is perfect. However I find Hancock and Moore to be the most consistent in delivering high-workmanship goods. If I were to rate them, H&M would get a 9.5 on a 10 scale. Leathercraft whom I also carry, would get a 9.0 Bradington Young I'd rate a 7.5 overall. Southwood a 7.0 Flexsteel a 6.0, etc. (they are middle-of-the-road, however) Bentley Place and King Street are not married cover unless is specifically states so (your dealer can tell you). So those are selected, marked, cut and sewn in Cherryville, NC. Its all relative to price paid for the goods, of course. Duane...See MoreBradington Young Vari Tilt chairs
Comments (1)Basically a variation off the full recliner, with only the back tilting mechanism. In theory this design allows for a more comfortable seat, in B&Y 8 way tied spring seat, also that this mechanism and overall structure will last much longer. Just about all other recliners and motion upholstery, not only does the seat / back / foot rest all move together, they also have to support your full body weight. In time the joints will wear and become loose, making the mechanism more difficult to operate. The down side is that a ottoman is almost always required, as most people find it uncomfortable without a foot rest in the full recline. Depending on the space available, the floor type (as you will need to move the ottoman around) and when sitting in/out of the chair the ottoman can be in the way. Their are several variations of control, the retailer should be able to provide the details, just consider the lower back versions have no headrest....See Morebradington young chairs---so bad
Comments (9)About the seat cushions pammyfay, I was wondering about that too, since I did sit in them at the store and altho they were more firm than I'm used to, they were comfortable. I've been sitting on the one chair that is the most goofed up, since I find it painful to look at that one....now I've switched over to the other chair and it is much more comfortable. How weird I thought, so I started looking under the cushions and on the worst one, I can feel the springs under the deck fabric and they stick up and are uneven. I can't feel the springs under the fabric on the other chair. Also, the cushion on the really bad one sits a couple of inches higher and cock-eyed. So I think it's more a matter of the construction problems and the height and crookedness which is making it so uncomfortable, rather than just the firmness. The bad one seems also to be missing the wrapping of down/feathers which I can see on the other one when I unzip the cover. Sigh......I guess I need to go back to the drawing board....See MoreAnother CL Chair possibility for my FR - Bradington Young?
Comments (11)A simple Google turns up the Bradington Young website. They appear to be proud of their leather furniture and offer details about the constructiona and leather grades, ect.. Clicking on their chair link shows lots of distressed leather. It seems to be their signature style. I could see that CL chair in a Western motif with the right architecture and accessories. It could look right in many styles of decor but not all. It is definately masculine in style and would look great in an urban loft condo with exposed brink and natural floors. I bet a guy would love this chair for a rec room since it certainly does not look "fussy". It looks terrible on that garage floor. Why don't these people consider the background in their photos? They should have tacked up a white sheet behind it and taken the pic. Hopefully no one else will see the beauty this chair has due to the lack of merchandising in the photo, and they will sell it for a song to you with no other offers coming in.
