need help with kitchen makeover

When we moved into our house in September, we knew we would have to do some work on the kitchen. In fact our first project was putting in the travertine stone floor. I want to update it a bit, but without major surgery. Here is what I want to do:

-new counters (prefer granite as we are careless with hot pots, etc)

-backsplash (could be made of same material as counters to make kitchen look less choppy)

-change paint color of cabinets but maybe keep wood doors? Not replacing cabinets

-New sink

-new paint color on walls and trim. Currently walls are a stark white.

-would prefer to keep the light over table but not a line in the sand.

The busyness of the floor makes picking a granite difficult. I've also included pictures of the rooms that the kitchen flows into (ie, visible from kitchen.) Also, there are French doors on the other side of the table making an overhang/island out of the question.

So please help me. The house is rather formal, but I still want a warm and inviting kitchen.

Thank you, thank you!

Jo
