Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

lighting designers... putting pendant at different plain by soffit

I have an 8 foot ceiling with a soffit box at 81" over my working island (46" from counter top to ceiling). Whats your opinion on putting mini pendants... about 3 of them at the ceiling height right next to the boxed soffit? My question is not about wattage or how many to put, but more of a design issue. Will it look ok? Apparently a dangling/hanging pendant would look silly because it would be so short. There is also no room for a housing box to accommodate a standard fixture. Right now there is low-voltage puck lighting.

My other option is some flush mount lighting but I prefer hanging mini pendants. It is a support I beam that is going across my whole ceiling in the kitchen and it will NOT get raised into the joists unfortunately. Thanks for your input.

IMHO with low ceilings pendants just accentuate the ceiling height, or lack thereof. Let the pendant over the table be the star (this one is hung too high), don’t draw attention to the bulkhead.

I was planning on changing that black iron fixture. It is actually installed 27 in above my eating table. Thank you but I want to go with the pendant look sooo bad. I need lighting over my workspace island.

I see a couple of other people have already mentioned Barn Light Electric (http://www.barnlightelectric.com), but I too have had a TON of success with them. My husband and I have ordered from them on multiple occasions and they've got a really expansive collection of lighting. Plus it's always free shipping on their website, I'd say it's worth checking out! Also, have you ever looked at Home Decorators Collection (http://www.homedecorators.com/furniture/seating/stools/) for bar stools? I've never ordered stools from them, but I've ordered other things and they're great. Their prices can get a little expensive, but they're always running sales!

Hello everyone!! I NEED HELP!!! I purchased 2 Duke Oversized Pendants (16 inch overall diameter) in 2020 on Pottery Barn site. They make my whole kitchen!! None of those will provide good light. You’ll look sickly and won’t be able to apply makeup. You need to reassess this design. It isn’t good. It’s truly terrible in fact. Cramming in two pedestal sinks with no storage and putting a giant dead body in between to block lighting is not a good plan. And neither are vanities in front of windows. It’s a dysfunctional to the max plan. You need a single sink vanity, in the center, with storage below. And 2 face height sconces on that wall. Plus additional general room lighting, and task lighting above the toilet, tub, and shower. All have to be damp rated to be used in a bathroom. Not kitchen lights.
