I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia.

The intricate structure of Down Under coral reefs inspired this spherical pendant light. Designed by New Zealander David Trubridge, the Coral Pendant starts with the natural forms of coral, gives them a more streamlined geometric shape and reassembles them into a spherical lamp. Concern for the environment also influenced Trubridge's design; the light fixture is crafted from bamboo plywood that is sustainably forested, and it is flat packed to reduce the carbon footprint of shipping.
The light is a great pick for transitional, modern and contemporary rooms. See how well it mingles with cowhide, networks with stripes, flirts with Ikea throw pillows and loosens up preppy plaids.

Because the light is flat packed, you'll have to do some work to put it together once it arrives. The good thing is, there's an easy-to-follow video that shows you how to assemble it, available online.
If you'd like to add some bright yet subtle color, the pendant is available with the inside paint rendered in cheerful hues like aqua, lime, orange, yellow, salmon and green (shown here).
While one orb is certainly enough to stand on its own, two look striking together, especially when they are different sizes. The pendant is available in five sizes: 15 1/2, 23 1/2, 31 1/2, 39 1/2 and a whopping 63 inches in diameter.
Tip: You can emphasize a room-dividing element with lighting. These pendants are hung right over the bookshelves that separate the staircase from the main living space.

In this contemporary breakfast room, the pendant navigates the space between the crisp white table and the high wood ceiling.

The Coral Pendant looks fantastic against a large window; its form is architectural and organic, so it ties in to the buildings and trees in the distance.
My favorite aspect of this pendant is the honeycomb of shadows it casts all around a room.
You needn't limit use of this pendant to a living room or over a dining table; it looks fantastic in a bedroom, from a nursery to a master suite.
Tip: Remember that you don't have to hang a pendant light in the center of a room. You can bring an otherwise boring corner to life with a pendant light or two, as you see here.
