Laundry room, storage issue

The room is in base stages. The walls will b white. There is a light (birch) drying rack that will b in the room. I have reddish oak floors (which i will be refinshing somewhere in there), There is one wall that is purple. I want to keep it, it makes the lilac outside the window pop twice a year. There will be an open area above the entry opening where i will be putting a reef stained glass piece eventually. The glass really has now beaaring, but just wanted to get everything out there. I will b putting shelves just above the top of the washer and dryer to prevent stuff from falling back there. There will b a cart on caster in between the washer and dryer. I am thinking storage shelves open (wood or wire) on S wall (the one with the drywall mess on it (2 the L of the dryer)) or maybe a slight L form the S wal over above the dry a bit. What do you think? I need storage! I have no linen closet, right not it is piled up in the living room. The comforters I can store elsewhere. It is towels and sheets, dishrags etc.

So the shelves, something open cuz of the small area and bins (im OCD so the bins are doable even though I'm to a huge fan, seems more like a fad but a functional one.

Can you post some pictures, and a sketch of the layout with measurements? And is your washer front load or top load?

I COULD cheat the dryer to the left a little--but we use the space behind it for long-term storage--stuff like beach chairs, boogie boards--you get the idea. I'll have to think about that. The doors do bump---but once I get the door hinge changed on the dryer my PLAN is to open it first and then open the washing machine. That SHOULD allow for easier laundry transfer. It's a royal pain-in-the-tuckus right now. The floor is neither hardwood NOR laminate...this is a basement on a slab and much of it is below grade. No, the flooring is a new product--a floating vinyl plank. The stuff that is down is Allure Trafficmaster from Home Despot. The product I wanted to use was Konecto...but it's "sold out" for the time being. The Allure is similar (some claim identical) to the lowest grade of Konecto. It was certainly inexpensive at $1.69 a square foot. I floored the entire closet for under $150. The nice thing about the Allure is that it floats...no adhesive on the underside. That meant I didn't have to worry about the remaining adhesive from the nasty tile I removed. Here is a close-up of the floor...before the baseboards and toe molding went back in: melanie

I think you can tweak the room a little....Love your storage/bookcase/display units. Will all three fit on one wall? If the units will fit on one wall, you have the ideal place for your chair and lamp....flat against the wall. If the three units do not fit on one wall, put two together (you have a globe on the fireplace cabinet and probably don't need the standing one between the units) and move the units to the corner....put the lone one on the wall you have it but push it to the same corner. Will look like three units going around a corner. Otherwise, I think I would put your pretty figures chair on the left side of the display unit with the nice floor lamp behind it. How about a coffee table or ottoman to put your feet on. Love the colors in your room. As far as the shelves next to the fireplace, I do think doors on the bottom would make it more attractive and give it substance.

Try open shelves on adjustable standards next to the window. Put a laundry basket or hamper under them, then start the shelves about waist high. Try four shelves. Adjust as needed. Keep the big detergent dispenser where its drips are easy to clean up. Slide a rectangular trash bin next to the window. Above the washer and dryer, add two large colorful artworks such as framed posters or one framed artwork and one good-sized mirror. Or add a clothes rod suspended from the ceiling for hanging clothes directly out of the dryer. It could also act as a rod for drying. A fold down valet rod may be useful, too, on the wall to the right of the door frame. The kink in the flexible dryer exhaust hose should be straightened out for safety and efficiency. Check to see if a sturdier exhaust hose is required by local code.

The room is roughly 12x6?!? A guess. The bump out behind the washer n dryer probably leaves floor area totaling 4x5 in front of it. That will b open. Next to the washer (in front of the window) is open 4x6?, then there will be a drying rack along N wall as you wall into room 2x4x4. Havent hat it in there but hoping i make it work in doorway, that is really the only place.
