So SAD....we lost our 3 year kitty last night
Comments (8)I am so sorry to hear about your little kitty, Merryheart. I know how much it hurts to lose a beloved pet. I worry a lot about urinary tract problems in my cat since my best friend lost her cat to it years ago. I think it's fairly prevalent in cats. I feed my cat Purina One 'Urinary Tract' formula. I don't know that it helps, but it makes me feel better, and she likes it. I've made stepping stones for my dogs that have died, and they are nice additions to my garden. I had a pet cemetery at my old house where I planted plants with the same names as my pets. I had grave markers, and stepping stones, and also had a bird bath set up there. For cats I have seen very precious little grave statues that are cat angels. They look very nice in your garden. If you know of a shop that has a laser engraver, they can make a marker with a picture of your cat with her name on a rock, a stepping stone, on granite, glass, or nearly anything. My brother's company has a laser engraver and they sometimes make pet grave markers. Another thing I like to do is plant trees in memory of my dogs that have died. I have a weeping willow that I planted for my all time favorite dog, Star. I hated to leave it when I moved, so I am taking cuttings of that tree to plant at my new house in memory of Star. That sounds crazy, I know, but I can't take the dogs' graves with me but I can take a cutting of "their" memorial tree. I have one tree still in a pot from when my dog Maggie died that I'm going to plant here. It's a corkscrew willow that I call "Maggie's tree". I also have a pine tree I brought here that belonged to my grandmother before she died, and it's "Grandma's tree". I realize you don't have an acreage like I have so maybe don't have enough room to plant a tree for your kitty. But it's my very favorite living memorial I do in memory of my pets. I also have a Southern Bottle Tree I made in memory of my friend Larry when he died. I found the cedar tree in his back yard with all the branches cut off fairly close to the trunk. I have no idea what Larry had planned for it, but I brought it home and "planted" it in my garden to remember him by. Eventually I covered all the limbs with cobalt blue bottles, and made it into a bottle tree. I think it's beautiful. :) But it's still "Larry's Tree" and reminds me of him in my garden. He was a gardener too and I think he would have liked it. I could send you a picture of it if you're interested. Here is a link for a kitty memorial stepping stone. If you'll see the seller's other items further down the page, she has some nice cat memorial items. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know planting a memorial garden for you kitty will help you in your grief. Dawna Here is a link that might be useful: cat memorial stone...See MoreHere Kitty,KItty,Kitty
Comments (12)Sheri I live in Elkhart, KS and this cat was shot around 22 miles by highway from town. Closer as the crow flies. He was verified a cougar/cat and picked up by the wildlife dept. Said they plan to mount him in their office after all the necessary checks are performed. I do want to clarify a few things. The person who shot him tried to scare him away. He had killed at least one chicken I'm told and he wouldn't leave even when shot close to. He would just stare at him. The only thing that could make him move were the dogs. He didn't seem that scared of the people trying to scare him. I understand he would just growl. When they pulled the dogs back he would head to the chicken pen. So finally after all else failed they shot him. There have been reports of a few others around this spring. But this is the first confirmed. Which is a lot less than the two previous years. It seems once they get a taste of domestic animals it is hard to get them to stay away. The female that visited the Campo area two years ago with the cubs was the same way. I visited the NE NM area during the Memorial day weekend. My 88 y/o uncle talked about them. Understand they have saw an increase in that area also. A female and at least one baby was trapped in that area and relocated I believe two years ago. The one in the picture was a young male. Another problem now that maybe forcing some to look elsewhere along with an increase in numbers is outsiders are buying some of the ranches where populations have existed for years. The remote, rugged canyons on those big ranches were a perfect home for them. Now the new owners are concerned about trophy deer hunting so many are making efforts to eliminate the cats. They are either trapped or scared to the point where they start looking elsewhere. Whatever the reason there is an increase in confirmed sightings. The wildlife dept officials doubted this was a cat till they got there and seen them. What they forget is that many of the older men west of here and in NE NM like my uncle have seen more in their lives than they have. I understand it has basically removed the sense of security the lady had. Dawn knows all too well about that. I also know there have been some sightings that haven't been reported. And I don't blame them for not reporting. In NM and even CO to some extent if they relocate a cougar many times there isn't much ever said. Once the word gets out then the roads are filled with those hoping to see another. And those who criticize livestock owners for protecting their livestock. Comments (12)I would not add any more Epsom salt unless you have checked your soils and are lacking it as for the rain that should not be the issue neither if your pots have good drainage some people say pepper roots do not like to stay wet but hydro grow shows that to be incorrect there is a big difference in being wet and not being able to breath then being wet with plenty of Air many people make that mistake i don't think it would be lack of nitrogen being your getting plenty of rain.... rain picks up nitrogen nutrients and minerals as it falls from the sky i would check to make sure you have good drainage in the pot & the roots are breathing ...... here is a few things you can try that may help get you some Standard Miracle Grow .... and a small bottle of Super Thrive along with a bottle of Alaskan Fish Emulsion mix it at half strength for indoor or potted plants in a gallon jug then put some in a spray bottle mist your plants every other day with this it will not burn your foliage but will make sure your plant have the right stuff to thrive if the plant is still giving you a issue i would add some perlite to the soil to help assure better air flow also if you are using tap water at any time be sure to put it in a gallon jug or a tub tote for 24 hours to insure the chlorine is evaporated & gone it is a enemy .....& will kill your beneficial micro organisms & Fungi in the soils that help aid your plants ....See MoreHelp - my kitty won't sleep with me anymore
Comments (9)It is probably age. My Oscar (I've got one too!) used to sleep with me all the time when he was younger, but now he sleeps on the guest bed - he has his own blanket he likes to bury himself in. My other cat Barney still sleeps with me though sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night or when I wake in the morning find he 's not there, he's taken himself off somewhere. My Barney actually can't jump on the bed anymore due to age and a touch of arthritis so I've built him kitty steps at the food of the bed - just a Rubbermade two-step stepstool plus a little 10" tall padded footstool that I used to use in the livingroom for him and he climbs up those like steps. My vet has advised me that I'll probably have to build kitty steps for him in other areas - actully did buy a new low stepstool last night for himto use to get up onto one of his favourite window perches - up on the stool, then onto a chair then onto the perch. So you could try doing that and see if Oscar comes back. Took a couple of weeks for Barney to start using his steps at the foot of the bed, though Oscar loves them, he used to jump onto a low bedside table and walk over my DH's face to get over to me! DH likes the kitty steps much better! tess...See Morekadefol
