bathroom tile design help!

Hi there! I am getting ready to do a bathroom renovation and need some help selecting tile. I fell in love with a mosaic and I’m trying to decide if the white or gray large format tile would look best around it for my shower and wet walls. The “white” is actually an off-white that leans ever so slightly gray. Definitely not a pure, bright white, but also not cream.

Our cabinets and tub will be white, woodwork will be white, tile floors will be charcoal. My friends think the white/off-white would be best (they think the gray will be too much, too dull) but my mom and aunt think the gray would look better — they say tub and cabinets would pop more against the gray. They think the white/off-white actually competes with the whites in the mosaic.

Any additional thoughts to help me decide?

I find the tiny hexagon tile rather ugly.. Sorry..

The mosaic would make a statement on one wall, like the shower wall.

I'd go for a really light grey floor (sand-ish) and maybe slightly darker wall tiles. Smooth ones.

All depends on the space itself and the style you want to achieve.

Are you thinking of the tiny hex for the shower floor? I’m not crazy about it either...maybe a larger hex like 2 inches.

Contractors do not design. They build. You need an actual K&B designer. You have a very restrictive space to get all that you want without turning it into a wet room. You, and your husband especially, need to educate yourself on modern waterproofing systems and how a wet room is properly created. The Schluter system will offer a lifetime warranty if their products are used from start to finish, including their thinset. Look at their YouTube channel. And don’t be so sure that your choice tractor can actually do this properly. Especially if he hasn’t had the wetroom and waterproofing conversation with you. " light grout that is impossible to keep clean " A bath used by males is best with epoxy grout. The Pro tiler needs to have experience using this type of grout. I have it in my baths...it is impervious to any stain / dirt.

You may have already thought about this, but dimmer switches will make whatever lighting scheme you decide on more flexible. Also, think about where furniture will be before placing the recessed lighting. 18 months ago we moved into a 25 year old house that had a finished basement (also with some windows, like yours). While they at least had dimmers on the recessed lighting, the placement of some of the cans was puzzling, even considering where they had their furniture when we saw the house before purchasing (the previous owners did the basement fit-out). I like the one room that has cans in the four corners and a central fixture which is a semi-flush 3-light (the cans are placed about two feet from the walls). The result is that the room is lit very evenly without the use of any table or floor lamps. I use the room for an office so I have a desk lamp for task lighting. Even if you don't use the other part of your basement, if you finish it so it could be used for a family room it will be good for your resale value. The next owners may want to put their teenagers down there with a big television. :-) I love the idea of the full bathroom. That is something I don't have in mine.

Grey large format. Less grout lines is ideal for surfaces that are subjected frequently to moisture.

I'm a little lost too. The tiny hex as accent? It looks somber and industrial and should go on a floor in a public place, not a home. What are your plans for the large hex? That's an accent tile.

The 12x24 tile that has the small hexagon has an identical tile that is flat( at least at one of the tile stores I go to). I think that if you use this tile and the mosaic it will be be busy. I would use the flat version of the 12x24 hexagon on the walls and do a strip with this 12x24 hexagon. You would add some texture but not looking super busy. For a Mosaic like that I would go with a clean flat tile instead. I read that you really loved the mosaic, and sometimes we fall in love with many things, they just don't go together well. At this point we have to decide which one we love the most. Dont worry, that happens all the time. I did this project with the same tile but using the flat version and only one strip around the tub.
