New Island, new granite, need backsplash help!
Comments (17)OK...I just re-read what I wrote and I don't understand what I was trying to say :) Didn't have any coffee yet this morning... I think what I was trying to convey, is that in your space, you already have the contrast you're looking for with the black island and the black perimeter. You don't need to add a white BS to add *more* contrast. This is of course just my opinion looking at your pictures on a monitor. Your space is very warm and I see that you have some white in the eating area. I just think doing a whole BS white won't work. I agree with everyone's suggestion of putting white paper up to see how it would look. I did that when I was considering a dark countertop - I put black construction paper out and realized I didn't like the look. There are other tiles that are light but not cream. My google skills aren't the best today for some reason, but I have seen glass tiles that aren't super white. This one isn't the best example, but I found this color on glass tile oasis called "icicles" and from the picture it looks like a clear vs a white glass. I am having trouble embedding the picture. Maybe something like that would work. Here is a link that might be useful: Taos icicle glass tile....See MoreWant photos/opinions of plug mold on counter and backsplash
Comments (4)I can't imagine that would be ideal anyway since you have a lot of moisture on most countertops - if not in the actual prep/cooking process, at the very least during clean up when you are wiping off the counter. I don't think that's a good idea at all, even if it would be allowable per code. That being said, this photo from Houzz shows a way that might work if you wanted something mounted low and would be particularly helpful if you don't have upper cabinets to hide it under. Still, I think it's significantly more visible (and not terribly attractive) done this way than hiding it under the upper cabinets. You would need to do custom cabinets AND you need to plan for this during your layout phase...you'll need to talk with the cabinet maker and your electrician to make sure that they are on board and that it's to code. Comments (4)Drywall is cheap and easy to patch. I'd just take a metal scraper and start prying that bugger off. If you can't figure out how to patch the drywall, surely one of your contractors can! It really is easy. And cheap. Especially since you will be tiling over most of it, so you don't need a perfect finish coat. (Getting a perfect finish coat is the trickiest aspect, IME.) I had a plastic thing like that as a backsplash behind by utility sink, but mine was screwed to the wall so it was easy to remove without harming the drywall, and I can't see any screw holes in yours, so it was probably glued on. Even so, it might pry off easily enough and then you can just patch the drywall a bit, prime it, and you're good to go. Worst case, you trash the drywall, and you'll just need to cut the drywall to nearby studs, slap up a patch piece, tape and mud a few coats, and it'd done. In my reno, my contractors have had to do that to good drywall at least a dozen times, and one competent guy can get it cut out, patched, taped and mudded to finish coat in just a few hours work....See MoreBacksplash ideas for remodel
Comments (151)It is perfection! The grout lines completely disappear so the blue grey color of the tile is the star. (Well and that stunning marble!) The white shelves look great too! Looks like you are on the home stretch with lighting and the last finishing touches. I am looking forward to the final reveal. I like it when people do a new thread for their reveal and add all the kitchen materials used and lots of photo. Of course put the word “Reveal” in the title, but maybe add a little description of your kitchen too. Something like… White marble and light blue kitchen or Namibian Sky Marble kitchen, etc…. 😍...See MoreK R
