How do you install new windows without removing interior trim?
Comments (3)Can you post a picture? ... Generally speaking, if an insert or pocket style installation is done, the install can be completed properly with out interior trim removal. If it is a full frame replacement, the trim has to come off....See MoreShould I remove wood window trim on stucco home?
Comments (4)Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the nicest look would be to remove them and have the contractor repair the holes with stucco during the color coat process, and then finish the front of the home with the foam trim detail, but I do not want to create a future water problem. I'm wondering if the second stucco contractor suggested leaving the wood because of that? If I'm not removing the wood, then I wonder whether to give up the color coat and simply paint? It's so much cheaper. Also, FYI, some of the home's windows are trimmed with wood and some are not, so it is not consistent (there was a kitchen addition, and the stucco comes to the sill there.) I want to do what will give my home the best appeal and longevity....See MoreShould I remove bottom of window trim prior to backsplash install
Comments (5)Your trim would be easy to replace and look much cleaner to install new after the tile. I can't tell how old your windows are, but did run into a problem with my old ones. The wood under the sill was on a slope and had to add a strip of wood to mount correctly. Plus the center style couldn't be removed with two windows creating a large one. I would also remove the side trim and fit after the sill. Comments (4)Yes, based on your photos it looks like an undersill inside a J-Channel. Pretty standard. I don't know if there is a specific tool for unbuckling the top piece of siding from the undersill trim, but you could try a vinyl siding removal tool like this: It's meant for removing one piece of siding from another, but it might be helpful to get it out of the undersill trim, too. Fortunately the end of your undersill trim is accessible, so just start at an end and slide the removal tool in and work your way along, horizontally. It has a little hook on the end of the blade which could help pull the undersill trim outwards. As you do that, pull down on the piece of siding with your hand. Hopfully it will un-click. Once you get it off, you'll need to cut the piece of siding down a bit to the correct height (don't cut it too short!), and then re-punch the top edge with a vinyl siding punch like this one: If I remember correctly the punch is a little pricey at around $30 but it makes a specialty hole/impression that clicks into the undersill trim. Probably worth it to have the correct tool. Let me know if that doesn't make sense....See MoreIzzy Mn
