How to choose the right color kitchen cabinets
Comments (11)Think about the style you are going for the home overall and your taste. Are you a modern person that likes simplicity = you can consider slab doors or shaker in the whites and the wood looks. Are you a more in the middle (transitional) who like a little modern and at the same time traditional aspects = you can consider shaker doors and if in your budget inset doors. Are you a traditional person = you can consider a shaker or a door with a raised panel or applied molding. As far as the color depends on your taste as well. White is a timeless color. It does highlight imperfections, scratches, dirt etc. Do you have kids? All things to consider. There is more maintenance required for the whites but they will give you a lot more mileage versus a set color. If you are a lover of the warmth of wood tones then you can definitely go with that as well. More forgiving than the white. Wood tones are coming back too. if you are a lover of color then you can consider a color in a painted cabinet. Lets say you like blues, I would try to keep it as neutral and monotone as possible like Hale Navy that has greys. Easier on the eye versus a royal blue that is in your face all the time and can eventually overwhelm you. One of the most important things to consider is the amount of natural light and other lights inside the home especially the kitchen. Lighter colors will yield an open feel, darker will yield and enclosed feel. Go with what you like and the style of the house and you will be on the right track. I hope this helps. Show us your progress. You can choose neutrals or whites in the permanent items such as a kitchen and add the color in the paint of the walls. If you tire of the color you can always repaint to freshen up your look. :-)...See MoreHelp me choose the right floor lamp!!
Comments (21)James, a history of your comments shows that you're mostly interested in promoting the replica MCM items sold at Manhattan Home Design. You wouldn't happen to work there or own the store, or be friends or partners (personally or professionally) with someone who is, would you? Also, there have been more than a dozen BBB complaints in the past three years about the store you've been recommending, which I would find problematic if I were looking to buy something there. Also, your recent posts in this thread and others sound very similar to some by Gabriella Robbins and Daniel Blake, who are also promoting MCM replica furniture in general, and the store in particular. Are all of you friends or partners in this venture?...See MorePlease help me choose the right fixtures for my kitchen/dining room?
Comments (21)Everyone's remodel takes longer than they think! I'll be 1 1/2 years out on a kitchen remodel we thought would take 6 months, so I'm sure you're doing great. Thanks for the big photo of the fixture, and it does look perfect for your space with a nice blend of those colors in the drapery hardware as well as your somerset pendants and the mirrors. As for the mirrors, really anything can be made to work and blend into a space as long as colors, textures or patterns are repeated elsewhere in the room. If you like the mirrors, by all means keep them as they are despite all the opinions people are giving you. Other people aren't living with the space -- you are. It sounds like your pendant hanging length isn't going to interfere with head or visual space, but I'm not an expert on that so double-check the measurements. If your counters are a standard 36" high and the pendants reach 36" above that, then I think you'll be fine. Some people are putting in elongated fixtures over long dining tables, similar to the ones you posted in previous photos, but I have a dining table that is long with a small chandelier above it and have never felt that the fixture was too small. If you like the colors and shape of the round one you just posted, I think it would work for your long table, especially because it has so many lights in it. You might want to think about installing it with a dimmer so that it is not actually too bright for some occasions. I'm happy to throw in my suggestions as so many people have helped me a ton with our remodel here in the Houzz forums, primarily through the archive of searchable posts. I'm like you trying to make decisions on my own, so it's required a lot of time researching everything....See MoreI need help choosing the right laminate or Vinyl Plank flooring color
Comments (13)I have been living with the acorn color for two weeks now on my second floor. I am more traditional, like you are. The floor installer said he liked working with this product and the quality was excellent. It looks very nice and it is comfortable underfoot, easy to clean and doesn’t show dirt. The only thing that surprised me was that the actual product out of the box looks darker than the sample, but I do still like it....See Morelindastein
