There are so many lighting options online with good prices, but I've found that's the hardest way to shop. The best way might be to take some photos of your space to an actual lighting store and see if someone there is knowledgeable to help with suggestions. Seeing lighting options in person helps a lot too. It looks to me like you could benefit from quite a bit more lighting than you are currently planning. Perhaps consider some track lighting to lend more light to all your areas. Pendants are more of a personal choice, so don't second-guess your likes so much and go with something that stands out to you personally.

I appreciate this, thank you!!! I did go to a few lighting stores and I was overwhelmed. One salesperson gave me a catalogue to go through but I could do that on line and I was left to make a decision which is my problem lol. I do have pot lights in the kitchen and for the dining room, I was just thinking a linear fixture? This was a renovation and the pot lights were added and a wall was taken down so trust me, this is a lot of light for me lol. If I was to keep the somerset light for the kitchen, do I have to match the gold finish in the dining room? Also, do you think I can go rectangular if my pendants are round, My problem is that I like so many styles that I don’t know how to stay focused on one or how to to blend it......i hope I’m making sense

Linear or rectangular box fixtures over dining tables are very popular right now, but ultimately it needs to be something you really like. I don't see any problem mixing rectangular with round if you like them both. Is there a larger lighting store within driving distance you could visit for some more ideas? I've found online shopping for lights to be so hard. It really helps to see things in person, then you can go online and shop for the best price if you want for something similar if the in-store fixtures are above budget.

You definitely want to try to match your finishes throughout an open concept space. So, if your cabinetry hardware and sink faucet are a certain finish, and certainly if your existing lighting is a certain finish, it is good to match. You can sometimes get away with mixing finishes together within reason, but they should be repeated and blended throughout the area so that it's not just one here and another one there. For instance, we mixed bronze and gold hardware in a bathroom remodel recently, but we have multiple gold items and multiple bronze items all mixed throughout the space, and it works well.

From the information you have given, you have a lot of room to play with regarding the light fixtures. And I see you don't want clear glass, but we have other options being completely custom made. There's a debate about LED vs. Halogen quality and the affect on some people's eyes. I'm leaning toward halogen fixtures. They emit heat and aren't as energy efficient as LEDs, but the light is nicer in my opinion, and my particular kitchen gets a lot of natural light, so I won't have lighting on much except at night.

Thank you Dormelles and to everyone who has commented, I appreciate ALL the advice!!! Some of those lights may be a little too modern for me? I'd like a bit of simple, pretty and practical all in one....is there such a thing??? LOL, Maybe I'm going to return the pendants I have. I like the idea of putting the two together and making it look like one? I'll also keep in mind about what you said with mixing the finishes. I tried matching the kitchen handles that's why I went with the brass lights but was hoping I can get away with black iron for the dining room? My curtain rod will be that finish as well. Here is a couple of pictures of some of the lights I like but not sure if it will go with the pendants I have or again, I will just return them? Dormelles, you are right about looking for lights on the internet but these were pictures I saved from before :)

Those are lovely! Yes, I like the drum. Black is somewhat of a neutral, so I don't see it clashing with metal hardware in the kitchen, especially since you have drapery rods that color. Your kitchen is really beautiful, by the way. Excellent job on the remodel! With some lights you can direct the angle so they give you the most ideal coverage, but in general, yes, the lights pointing downward will supply more coverage.

I've been looking at some of the lighting photos that were sent and everdebz, this is similar to the one you suggested....I don't mind this at all and am considering if I keep the pendants. So this will go with the somerset pendants that I currently have?

That's such a teeny tiny photo it's hard to see. Does it have any gold on it? Sure would be nice to have some tie-in to the gold in your somerset pendants, but it's not necessary. Mainly you really need to like the fixture. I saw someone write on a thread here at Houzz that the goal of a remodel is not to "settle" on something just to get it done. You really want to like the choices you're putting in. Also, I think you mentioned your ceilings are just 8 ft. so you have to be careful with those hanging fixtures that they can be shortened or else don't come down too low.

You are sweet and right about not settling and about the ceiling height!! This has been a long process because I am not confident with my decisions and it's taken a lot longer than it should have. There are a few mistakes I've made along the way and that's because I made my own decisions, lol. Thought maybe with pictures and people like you that don't mind helping I can get feedback and stay on track. The light above I think will work especially with my mirrors in the dining room which I LOVE and a few people that have worked on my house suggested I paint them since they don't go. I think they CAN go if I'm just careful.....again, this is where I need help :) Ok, I'm rambling.....

My somerset pendants will be about 24 1/2" from the ceiling, is that ok? From the counter top, roughly 36"?

From the top of my dining room table to the ceiling is 65". My table is 7ft long.....what do you think? Again thank you for your thoughts, you have no idea how much I appreciate this!!

Everyone's remodel takes longer than they think! I'll be 1 1/2 years out on a kitchen remodel we thought would take 6 months, so I'm sure you're doing great. Thanks for the big photo of the fixture, and it does look perfect for your space with a nice blend of those colors in the drapery hardware as well as your somerset pendants and the mirrors. As for the mirrors, really anything can be made to work and blend into a space as long as colors, textures or patterns are repeated elsewhere in the room. If you like the mirrors, by all means keep them as they are despite all the opinions people are giving you. Other people aren't living with the space -- you are.

It sounds like your pendant hanging length isn't going to interfere with head or visual space, but I'm not an expert on that so double-check the measurements. If your counters are a standard 36" high and the pendants reach 36" above that, then I think you'll be fine.

Some people are putting in elongated fixtures over long dining tables, similar to the ones you posted in previous photos, but I have a dining table that is long with a small chandelier above it and have never felt that the fixture was too small. If you like the colors and shape of the round one you just posted, I think it would work for your long table, especially because it has so many lights in it. You might want to think about installing it with a dimmer so that it is not actually too bright for some occasions. I'm happy to throw in my suggestions as so many people have helped me a ton with our remodel here in the Houzz forums, primarily through the archive of searchable posts. I'm like you trying to make decisions on my own, so it's required a lot of time researching everything.

I have another question where I took the photo, I have stairs going down to the foyer and I need another light. I have a pendant hanging now and it’s 40” long which is a great length but does not go with the new lighting upstairs. Should I go more towards kitchen or dining?

If the foyer light is visible to the kitchen and dining area, then you'd probably do best to try to keep the look homogeneous, in other words not introducing a completely different fixture from the other two. It probably won't matter a lot whether you lean toward the dining room light or the pendants' styling so long as you do lean toward one or the other. Are there smaller versions of either one or coordinating lights in the same lighting collection that you could bring in? That being a stairway you may not be able to do a hanging light depending on your ceiling configuration there and your clearances as the stairs angle. Glad you have the dimmers ready to go for you fixtures. I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of them to control the lighting atmosphere. Sounds like you planned this all out well.

i know with the globe, there are many just single globe pendants I can do but as for the other, I will look. I did find someone not too far that carries the modern forms line, will try and scoot over there today or tomorrow. I do have a hanging light that hangs roughly 40” and is not in the way whatsoever. I will keep you posted if you don’t mind?

OK, that's great if you already have a long hanging light installed and it's not in the way, so your options are pretty broad then as to what you can select. Happy shopping!
