Getting a new roof, what color is best for new shingles and gutters?
Comments (9)A charcoal roof is definitely a great idea. It will look fantastic with the brick. For the gutters, fascia, and trim, you've got a few options—depending on what appeals to you most. White/off white would be the most traditional for gutters, trim and fascia. Using a gray, everywhere, like the gray on the windows of your front porch, will give everything a more updated and sleek look. Or, you could do your gutters and fascia one color, and do all your window trim in black or another color. I would recommend repainting your fascia to match whatever color gutters you choose (and I'd use the same color for the downspout). And I'd also recommend painting all your window trim the same color. I personally really like the gray trim with the black you've got going on with the front porch windows. I'd carry that look to all the other windows on the house. Here's a little sampling of each of those looks, plus a color combination or two you may not have considered. Super cute house, and you've got a great garden! Good luck! Traditional More modern other color combos...See MoreNew House, New Roof, what’s next for curb appeal?
Comments (39)"It sounds kind of silly, but it looks like it belongs in front of a more contemporary house. It's too modern for my house! " I find this a very odd notion :-) There is nothing particularly contemporary in style about a Japanese maple. They have been planted in Japan for thousands of years. With the right complimentary plantings, there is a cultivar suitable for any style of architecture! I would opt for a JM over messy, deciduous ornamental grasses any day of the week!! Especially for an entry garden. "If weed killer was sprayed, you can’t plant anything or will have to replace dirt around each planting." Just an FYI but this is not at all true. Most herbicides/weed killers retain minimal viability in the soil - they have to interact with growing plant tissue/foliage to be effective - and you can generally replant the area within a couple of days. Comments (8)I did not provide enough information and also my photos were not detailed enough to show that the actual (brand new) WINDOWS (from Window World) are NOT the same color as the old painted wood surrounding them. We think it will be impossible--and not look particularly good--to paint the wood to "match." They are a shade of beige, but it appears to have a slight undertone of green to it. We wanted to keep the shutters to add more color, but I get your point and appreciate your feedback!...See MoreWhat's new? A new food? A new gadget? A new recipe?
Comments (72)CSA's were frustrating years past. Upfront dollars. Pick-ups with minimal hours. (Friday 5-7pm, Saturday's 8-10 am) etc, yada. You snooze, you loose...A good businessman jumps in and makes it more accessible. Farmers are often horrible at interaction and business....take that communication out of the farmers hand...let them farm that they are comfortable doing...and put the business/delivery in the hands of those expert....win-win. Even Coops 15-20 years ago became nasty know-it-alls. Open spice bulk bags, Un-refridgerated vegetables. Pale pasty skin hippies so angry.... I'm not a Facebook person. Just family and a few friends...baby pics😍... A couple groups, thousands in the Misfits groups...(I joined but no time to participate) ...not one person thinks or mentions a greater good for supporting small farmers. No one pats themselves on their back at all. This is not the solution for food desserts or food waste...just a baby step to be more aware of our local food supply. Use the off cuts and waste for stocks, etc... Try new things not available in the area you live... My local CSA is five miles away and brilliant. They opened up for the locals 2020 without membership. Like I've said...it is what I grow so I have no need. Just follow their commitment to the community....See MoreYayagal
