Nightmare contractor tile job
Comments (74)Great little bath! Good for you! So did you check out how the shower was built for potential water issues? It can take some time for damage to become apparent. It would be unlikely that the underlying foundation and shower pan work was any better than what could be seen on the surface....See MoreHelp! Comments (11)Shaughnn... I have no DOUBT that you are absolutely correct...it just sounds right to me....the problem is I'm in rural Alabama and that's not what they "do" here yet...I spoke with 2-3 contractors and several tile installers and they directed me in how I should go...I called my drywall supplier and he called it "greenboard" and confirmed it was a gypsum product..he said here most builders will put plain drywall in the tub surround and tile right on that....he said it was better that I had put the greenboard down and that definitely I could mastic right on top of the greenboard and tile there...I know you're probably cringing and saying NO WAY! But in the real world where things are done everyday and this house will likely outlive my lifetime...am I too wrong to do what they're telling me "everyone around here does?" My main concern is providing a good barrier between the tub surround and wall to prevent any leaks...I did have my tub filled to the rim with insulation (icynene liquid foam) underneath...and I plan on sealing the tub surround well with caulk etc....this tub will be used once a week if that gives you an idea....please advise (although I know you already have, but given the circumstances, need more) Tara...See Morepicking B/S tiles tomorrow
Comments (48)My granite is a dark brown Giallo. When I was looking for granite, I took along a sample piece of wood painted in the White Dove of my cabinets. When looking very closely at the granite, there are white specks in it. So, I thought it would be fine. Not so! Over all, it looks brown! It competed with the white tone of the cabinets. The crema is more beige than cream but it goes with white and it goes with brown. And, it is a good transition between the two. This is what I am hopng you can achieve. A good transition color in the tile I am not sure if this color will go with your counter. But, you can try a sample. Everyone on here who has the Rixi really loves it....See MoreFloor 2 be grouted tomorrow...he doesn't want to grout under cabs
Comments (11)Just a quick comment. We kept the same ceramic tiles that had been down for 40 years. We liked them and they are no longer available. We only had 24 - 12" octagons left from the original purchase. Daniel, our miracle tile guy, added the tiles for the 2 ft. of additional floor space we needed and he made it with one left over. There was some slight color mismatch between the tiles that had been down and the tiles that had been in a box, but he matched the old grout perfectly. I agree that the GC should do it now for all of the above stated reasons, but, just in case, the grout can probably be matched pretty well. Also, keep any extra tiles for later, just in case. The tiles toward the front of the picture toward the carpet are new....See Morekthom91
