Labels that won't fade?
Comments (45)All of these ideas are nifty but the ones that hold up the longest by far are the copper plant tags which is why so many botanical gardens use them. They are nothing to make, in fact its just a little more work than writing. Take a copper sheet from lowes/hobby lobby for 12$ and cut it into whatever size strips. I usually get about 200 copper labels for 12$... then I save any copper eletrical wire from junk appliances people toss out and use that for the cordage because with the rubber coating it holds tight and doesn't rub the plant. Buy plastic labels from china via ebay for stuff you sell or plan on putting in ground/low cover items. In fact I was on here to try and help others, I am about to order 500 hanging tags and 100 in ground for like 15$ total. Also, if you do your whole yard like I have with the copper its great when your like is that a Louisiana sweet or was that a navel, oh let me check after 5 years and it makes life easy. I wish there was an easy way to engrave the plastic labels, I was kind of looking for something without having to go the whole dremmel route, but ideally that would be great as well. I just find the plastic finds it way into the soil or if its a plant tag breaks after a couple of years. Copper is pretty permanent, I have found some that are like 40-80 years old and still legible....See MoreFaded Flowers, Heat and Plant Food-3 part ?'s
Comments (11)I don't do store bought petunias anymore. I started with some re-seeding types from Select Seeds several years ago and I have petunias galore! They are in shades of deep purple, lavender, pinks to whites. Once in a while I get a broken color, but they seem to be gone this year. They get very long and I should start pinching, but probably won't get around to it. If I want to start some in other places, I just dig up a clump of seedlings and move them. This kind works better for me than the fancy hybrids the stores love to sell! This miserable heat we are having in southwest Missouri is hurting everything! My red daylilies in particular start out such a gorgeous color but are very unattractive by afternoon. The weatherman said we are having July heat now! Wonder what July will be like? We who live in different zones have to realize that our gardens are a whole different species from each other. We have to adapt our methods to our regions to get the best results and sometimes those results are less than what we would like. Such is life. glenda...See MoreID for white center w/ pale pink outer
Comments (9)Thanks for these suggestions! One of my problems has been that there are simply so many roses that it's hard to narrow things down. Gemini seems a lot darker than my rose has ever gotten, so I don't think it's that one, but Moonstone seems possible. Sheer Bliss says it's a pink center with white outer while mine's the other way around... I think Moonstone's the closest so far, though I'm not completely convinced. And yeah, I've thought of trying to cut away the red one. The very first blooming I didn't realize it was there because of a sucker, I just couldn't figure out where there were two bushes... I'm new to rose-tending. And it was pretty. Knowing that now, I'm leery because of how incredibly thorny the cultivated one is and how intertwined they are. But I'm going to try. :)...See Morefade-to-white?
Comments (8)I don't grow it myself but the botanical gardens near me has a nice planting of a DA rose called 'Rosemoor' which smells lovely and has that white-edges-pink-centre look. I love its growth habit and the shape of the flowers, though sometimes the pink centres look weird and almost spray-painted to me....See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
