Show me your corian- do you like corian
Comments (38)I don't have one of the colors you mentioned, but I do have photos: I LOVE our counters. They are LivingStone brand, which is virtually the same as Corian. The integrated sink is Corian brand. We are a young family w/4 year old and one on the way. I don't have time/patience for counter maintenance; DH and I both work outside the home and we do most of our own cooking. I wanted a light color with a matte finish. I didn't want laminate (too many bad experiences w/seams lifting etc). I didn't want to deal with keeping sink caulk clean. I didn't want something that would shatter dishes as I am a klutz--now that we have an unforgiving tile floor, I am especially glad we considered this b/c I have knocked many things against the counter in the course of working in the kitchen (and they are still intact, vs the tile where everything explodes into a million specks). An additional plus--our counters actually let some light thru, so the few base cabs we have (as opposed to drawers) are easier to see into. I can understand the appeal of natural stone and I agree it has depth/beauty that "plastic" doesn't capture; we looked at it, but in the end LivingStone was a better choice for us, financially as well as daily life. I embraced the choice of doing what worked best for me, not what is most popular. Our neighborhood is mostly starter homes, and few of the 1970s kitchens have even been updated. We not only updated but completely changed/improved the layout, which I think will have more impact for resale than natural stone counters. Secondly, we don't know when we might have an opportunity to "upgrade" so doing what works for us was the best choice. We've had our new kitchen/counters/sink about 1 1/2 years and I have had zero problems. The one "stain" I got was from an orange piece of junk mail paper where water was on the counter and the paper was left in the puddle for a few days and allowed to dry. Bleach took it right out....See MoreHow can I fix this bad shower pan installation-Help!
Comments (2)Well, you put in a pre-slope, so that's good. I think the water will find the weep holes through the mortar (which is porous), so don't worry about that. As for the curb, if the CBU was screwed at the tops only, then it's going to be fine. It's another story if the screws were applied on the bottom/inside near the floor, since water can get through. But "top/inside" should be fine. If there are screws through the bottom/inside of the liner (near the floor), then unscrew the CBU, patch the bottom holes, and put the CBU back, screwing it only near the tops....See MoreWhat can I do to make this uneven shower pan threshold level?
Comments (7)I agree, they messed up. However, to fix this would require ripping out the entire thing and this small remodel project has already spanned over three months. We’re ready to be done with the whole experience, not drag it out for another three months. We’ve already negotiated discounts to the final project cost based on issues with the shower, so while I’m not 100% happy with the shower, it is something that we can live with. It’s functional and we realize that our space was challenging to work with. The pan is solid everywhere except this one corner and the water drains properly. The entire shower enclosure was a sloppy install from a cosmetic standpoint, there is no way that I would want the same plumber to redo it. We are very happy with how the rest of the bathroom turned out, the shower is the only problematic area. It’s annoying but not worth the hassle of forcing the contractor to rip it all out and start over, especially if we can level the threshold enough to install the shower door. All of the weight is supported by the walls and crossbar, I just need a level surface to rest the skinny little threshold piece on top of to guide the doors and have them open/close properly....See More2020 info needed on shower pans
Comments (25)I just found this info regarding The Onyx Collection. I know Corian uses something different, but I don't know the difference as far as durability. Onyx Collection: "63% of our products is a hydrate crystal--Al2O3+3H2O. Alumina is also the main ingredient in Corian© and all "solid surface" products. The main ingredient in our product (alumina trihydrate) is in roofing materials and the plastics inside automobiles to slow flame spread and as a smoke retardant. It is in the plastic coating on the wiring in your home (in a much smaller percentage). Different than Corian: Our other 37% is a special polyester resin we developed over the last 22 years (and continue to improve) to get the properties which allow us to say "Yes, Guaranteed Forever". We all try to get properties which make our products work best for our applications. Our application is the bathroom. We believe our resin serves this purpose well. Corian© uses acrylic resin, others use various blends of polyesters or modified acrylics. We prefer our resin for our products and it serves us well. We use cultured marble type molds to cast our products. The solid surface industry casts sheet goods and fabricates their products. The cultured marble industry uses calcium carbonate as their main ingredient. Our Gloss finish does have a gelcoat on the surface (about 15 mils) similar to cultured marble. Our Gelcoat is ISO-NPG. ISO-NPG gelcoat is a tight molecule--very resistant to water penetration. Our Matte finish does not have gelcoat on the surface. We use a different blend of resin for Matte. Our products are real hybrids. The resin in the matte finish--we substitute 30% of the normal ortho resin with ISO-NPG resin. This increases the ability of the product to resist moisture penetration. This is necessary without the ISO-NPG gelcoat coat which is on our gloss products. We achieved our Matte Finish "look" by lightly sanding the panels and then applying a permanent sealer to the surface. There is little to no shine on Matte Finish Panels. Many colors are available in a Matte. " So, I could get a matte base instead of glossy, but they do not have many colors. Only 17 matte colors. Top is Snowswirl. It is not listed in either the glossy or matte. Will call tomorrow to check for gel coat. Middle is White matte. Bottom is Platinum matte....See MoreRelated Professionals
