can you help me design my backsplash?
Comments (23)jsween - thanks for the encouragement. I was just telling somebody that I actually would rather eat a bug than deal with the backsplash. Oinch! ginabmg - as far as recessed lighting, we have five 4" cans in the ceiling, plus two 4" cans over the sink, and over the penninsula we are set up to have a pendant or some type of track lighting, depending on who wins that battle, me or DH. DH is set on a pendant, and I am dead set against it! If I get my way, we'll change that and make it two 4" recessed lights over the penninsula. But that's for another thread!! We have 75 watt halogens in our cans now, which is a perfect amount of light. HOWEVER - once we put the housings in the holes, which we haven't done yet, we will have to change the bulbs out to 50 watt max, which is NOT GOOD!!! I strongly urge you to put in 5" or 6" cans so that you can use 75 watt bulbs. And then you won't need so many holes in your ceiling. (although two 50 watt 4" cans over the sink is actually perfect.) That is one major mistake we made and that's what I would do differently if I could. Also, we do have undercabinet lighting, which is fabulous. Anyway, 16 sounds like an awful lot, unless your space is much larger than ours....See MoreAnyone with a 2 inch backsplash or no backsplash?
Comments (21)Hi. We installed out kitchen in 2012. We still haven't chosen or decided on a backslpash - it's the painted wall. I have a creamy Egyptian marble, - don't remember the name. I like unstructured European vintage-y kitchens. Many of them don't have backsplashes either. My stainless range has a stainless backsplash directly behind it. I had picked out some mini-clear glass subway tile for the backsplash that coincidentally matches my Prescott Green paint color perfectly but what if I decide to change wall color one day? Just this week I started thinking maybe I made my backsplash tile decision three years ago which was to have none. Our marble installers tried very hard to discourage us from marble in the kitchen but I have not regretted it. All those kitchens in southern Europe can't be wrong. FYI - If you are considering glass backsplash look at a product call 3-Form it comes in an amazing variety of colors, textures and imbedded items, two good friends used it in their kitchens. http://www.3-form.com/ Do what speaks to you in your home. Comments (3)A backsplash can be done at any point. Is there some reason besides being anxious to get it done that you can't wait the 4 weeks to get what you really love? In the scheme of things... I think a 4 week wait would be worth it to get something I had my heart set on. I know how hard it is when you're dying to see the finished product....See MorePlease help me select a kitchen backsplash
Comments (0)Hi, I need help with my kitchen backsplash. Its a transitional to contemporary style home currently under construction. The cabinets will be omega white uppers and smokey grey lowers. CS London Grey countertop. Here are two backsplash choices I have so far. 1) The flooring we have selected is seen in above pic. (and) 2) I am also open to other suggestions. I initially considered glass sheet, but those are not going to work well behind my cooktop. I also do not like subway tiles. Prefer minimal grout lines. The tile in the second pic- the tile would go all the way from the countertop to the bottom of the uppers- so I won't have any horizontal grout lines. I don't like the backsplash looking too busy. Do you guys have any suggestions for me? I am finding this super hard and I think my brain is fried after all the decisions making thus far! TIA....See MoreAsh Lauren
