Mold on seed garlic -- can it be salvaged?
Comments (6)@GarlicFiend But the types of molds which infect garden plants are really different from the types that grow on things in your kitchen. If the garlic is in storage it's probably a kitchen type mold. As far as I know, mold spores are always present on everything. That's why growing mushrooms, for example requires the medium be sterilized and even then it doesn't always get everything.. Doesn't pretty much anything get moldy in the compost? I've never seen that continue to live uncovered in the garden or in garden soil when the compost is spread among plants....See MoreCan a Restoration Hardware salvage wood trestle table be used outdoors
Comments (6)Hi, random question. I saw that you have the RH trestle table in salvaged brown. Did you need to add a finish for protection or use some sort of tung oil, etc. to prevent any issues with spills? Everything I’ve read from people are those finding ways to protect the natural unfinished version of this table, but I haven’t found anyone saying you need to do this for the stained versions of it. I just wanted to be 100% before I start using it. (It arrived this Saturday). I’m actually getting the Salvaged brown as well and was just curious if you had to do anything for protecting the surface or not? Thank you so much. Comments (1)I'm an experienced basket weaver and I could repair it by re-weaving those portions that have broken, so maybe you can try it yourself or find an experienced weaver to help you. Pre-woven wicker sheets are meant for wicker-seat chairs that have the right type slots to work with. In your case, you'd need to buy bulk plastic weaving supplies to do the repair -- you want to re-weave it all to hold it together and hide the structural elements. The good news is that these furniture items are typically woven in sections, so if one section breaks you don't need to reweave the entire piece. Here's a link to one place that sells a variety of plastic weaving materials... you may need to search further to find a decent match in materials. Comments (3)The problem with a low filler like that is that you have the possibility of contaminating your water supply to the house. That's why you don't see them anymore. Once the tub is filled with water the outlet is now below the water line, If the faucet is open water can back flow into the water supply lines. At that point the contaminated water can be distributed to the kitchen or the sink faucet. Modern codes require all faucets to be above the waterline to prevent any back flow. I'm a preservationist and am all about preserving the original fabric of the house but I would think hard about reusing this setup. Just my .02 worth....See Moretozmo1
