I never get this ground hog thing. If he sees his shadow, it's 6 more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see it, spring comes in a month and a half!

If only it was 6 more weeks. My best hope is that it doesn't snow in May.

Our groundhog, General Beauregard Lee, predicted 6 more weeks of winter for Georgia. Grrrrrrrr

What's amazing to me is that he's only not seen his shadow 19 times in 133 years. I lived in the area for 13 years, and while I loved, loved, loved living there, it's the only place I've ever lived that when the sun came out in the winter, we would say Oh look, there's the sun. So how come it always manages to come out on February 2nd?

All in all, it's just a fun and silly tradition.

Pretty's belly predicts six more weeks of winter.

Pouring rain here with snow coming tomorrow and Monday, so looks like it will be an early spring here. I noticed the other day that the daffs are coming up. They are about a month early, but we had a really mild January and I think that woke them up.

I have various bulbs that poked up after New Years, but they've been put on pause.

I think I am going to message one of the local weather people, to ask if my perception that this has been the most overcast winter ever (at least, in the 22 years I've lived here) is correct. It seems that we have had unusually few sunny days, even though there have been more days when it was unusually warm.

I'm pretty sure it will take a month of warm weather just to melt the snow drifts from all the shoveling and plowing around here. :0) No early Spring for us.

Our favourite groundhog is Wiarton Willie in a town north of here near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

He says that spring is just around the corner.

There is an article today in our local paper. A man rescued an abandoned baby groundhog (5wks.old) last May. His intention was to nurture it until the groundhog could be released back into the wild, but he became so attached to it.

He named it "Brown Sugar" and states that he has trained it to shake hands and roll over on command. It even uses a litter box! After meals, he said Brown Sugar enjoys some play time, then goes under it's blankie for a nap. Too cute.
