What finish for fireplace surround...and do I paint the brick?
Comments (17)I would leave the brick alone. I think it works well with the color of the floors, and brings in some warmth to a cool palette. It also pulls that rusty color out of the artwork above the mantel. As for the surround, my inclination would be the bronze. I am not sure that I would like the nickel or chrome as well with the brick color. I wonder if you would consider putting the two candlesticks together one side of the fireplace, rather than splitting them. I think they are very nice, but would have more impact as a pair. Then I would get some birch twigs and put in the vase, to mimic the branches in the art. If that fits, you could put that on the other side of the artwork, with the two candlesticks together on the opposite side. Otherwise, it could sit on the hearth on the side opposite where the candlesticks are on the mantel. You have a lovely home....See MoreWhat paint color looks best with gold shower surround?
Comments (41)Oh I'm so sorry if I seemed negative. That wasn't my intention at all. I worried after posting that I had been clumsy with my wording. I think the painting is very pretty; the colors seem great; love the frame, and the softness of the painting. The only minor thing that caught my eye was the large brownish flower, a shade that makes me think of dried or wilted flowers. But I'm a plant/flower fiend, so that's a personal problem! Honestly, I was just trying to say that if you're on the fence about it, I wouldn't keep it. Not because everything needs to be sentimental or historical or original, but because you'll see it every day, and you want something that brings a smile to your face for one reason or another. If it will do that, great! If it won't, the wall can always wait until you find something that will. I couldn't tell from your post whether you loved it or not. What you've done so far, including the painting, already makes it feel lighter and is a great improvement. I appreciate your posting the photos and look forward to more!...See MorePainted cement stepping stones
Comments (2)Hi Karen, thanks for posting your painted stones here for us. You know I love those bunnies--especially that brown one! ;o) Karen has quite a collection of bunny and Whippet items in her lovely home. I just wanted everyone to see that there are so many things we can paint--doesn't have to be just wood or canvas. Anj, one of my neighbors has the round pavers from her sidewalk across the lawn to the city sidewalk. She has gorgeous one stroke purple flowers and the word welcome painted on one and some white flowers like apple blossoms on another. (I haven't been able to see what is on the rest since they sort of go up a slope.) She just painted the flowers on the natural stone color--did not paint the background first. I admire them everytime I walk past....See MoreWhat color to paint a huge fireplace surround??
Comments (9)Vistas Interior Design, thank you so much. The [photo[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/forest-avenue-modern-family-room-orlando-phvw-vp~2100924) you linked to looks beautiful. I never would've considered this possibility. That approach would shift the focus to whatever art, etc. we decide to decorate with. Houssaon, that's another extremely interesting suggestion--hanging a painting with some green would incorporate the green tiles in a way we might like. This is perhaps the easiest solution of all and it wouldn't require us to re-paint the tiles! Thanks! Sophie, I really appreciate the warning. We are inexperienced and will definitely proceed with great caution....See More- 5 years ago
