The Labradorite is stunning but “bossy”; it will be the star and the boss for other choices like paint and backsplash. The other choice will not boss as much, but it might not be the star of the kitchen...hard to tell from the small piece. Is it marble or quartz?

Both choices might work, and I suspect many others that your friend nixed. Were these your favs? Maybe another yard visit without your friend Is in order.

It really took me multiple trips to different stone yards for me to get a clearer sense of what “sang” to me. I would also encourage you to look at leathered and brushed slabs instead of just the more common polished stones. I found that those finishes made my heart sing even when it was on a stone type I had rejected polished. I also came to realize that I wanted my stone to be my “star” but not an overly bossy one.

On my monitor, the Thunder White Dakota quartz coordinates very well with your flooring tile. Difficult for me to say with the other options as the tile is not next to them. My worry is "a cabinet sample similar to the white mine will be". I'd be walking around with a sample of the SAME cabinet to be sure the white was the same. Undertones are everything when vying for harmony in a space and whites can be tricky. The fourth option in your first post looks all right to me as well and I like that the stone pattern is subtle (not bossy).

Your flooring's pattern is subtle enough that it shouldn't boss you around as much as a patterned countertop could. Without wanting to put the cart before the horse, did you have anything in mind yet for a backsplash? Did you have inspiration pics for your kitchen?

Beautiful kitchens. Look at those counters: mostly white and quiet save for #4 and #6. Great news for the cabinet sample.

Omg, your flooring will be just fine with any of those stones. Are you installing the countertops directly to the floor? Didn’t think so. So stop holding the flooring samples up to the countertop samples! ;)

I am a fabricator. I always tell my clients to avoid attempting to "match" the stone to another surface as too often the end result is "close but no cigar". Much better is to look for the stone to be a complementary entity that brings together the other visual elements of the room. This is usually fairly easy as most stones (or even the artificial quartz) have multiple colors.

The recent craze of pure white quartz I suspect will go the way of shag carpet and extra wide lapels in the not too distant future.

I was confused- is the floor tile already installed? It sounded like you said it is throughout your house. Do you have any actual pics of the space?

I don't think she's looking to match the stone as much as ensure the undertones play well together. Mixing warm and cool hard surfaces can be iffy for most people. Also, if she chooses a stone that reads too blue, for example, she might feel limited for the rest of her surface choices.

I have trouble believing pure white quartz counters is that type of trend but I'm a huge fan so... :P

Check out QUARTZITE (not to be confused with man-made 'quartz'). It's stronger than granite, but has veining like marble. Taj Mahal is a nice neutral and there are others that you may love. Call the slab yards and find out if they have it.

Busy granites are out, but you can probably find a killer price. Even a solid black granite (absolute/pearl) in a 'leather' finish is nice on perimeter, then marble on the island. What you have chosen for a counter feels heavy and too busy...(to me).

I feel you on the marble, it's gorgeous. Many people have it in their kitchens. I have it in all my bathrooms and all my antiques have it on the counters. It's more maintenance so just be prepared. If you don't care about a little stain/etch here and there....

I agree with above. Look around on Houzz at the kitchens you love, and most likely they will all have simple/clean/light counters with perhaps a feature slab on an island....

I think that your floor is a neutral and almost anything will go. From your inspiration pics you know what you like so stick with your vision and avoid anything too dark and busy. Our quartzite is nuage macchia oro labeled as Tahitian Cream at Daltile Stone. I have white perimeter cabinets and found slabs with a lot of white in them. Very happy with the durability. There were some parts of the slabs that I did not like so worked those out of the layout. Many have asked if they are marble. I had black granite for many years and even though I have a lot of natural light, they were more difficult for me to work on.

Taj is one of the harder quartzite. that would work.

I also like your 2nd pic of the marble look quartz. very crisp and clean together.

BTW, you said you don't want the blue/green of the splash, but if you use a white glass, that's exactly what you'll get. the iron oxide in glass becomes very pronounced in the white tile. you can't see it with just a few of them, but once they're all installed, it's a very cool, greenish hue.

You'd have to spend good money for crystal clear glass if you want a true white.

I like the last slab in the last post the best. I think they speak to each other nicely. I am wondering if the "strips" in your floor will fight the pattern in the first slab of your last post. Its hard to tell because your floor sample is too small. It might work.

I don't think they need to match at all. I would try putting the countertop sample on the edge of the table and lining up the flooring sample beneath it on the floor-- then take a photo so you can see what that will look like.

Always test to make sure that it is truly a quartzite. A true quartzite will not etch or stain and some are more porous so need to be heavily sealed. So many horror stories on here from those that have had issues with mislabeled stones.

Yes, Taj Mahal is gorgeous! I"m not sure I'd pair it with a green/blue glass though, but you could choose the splash after counters are installed...
