National Rose Seminar in St. Paul, MN
Comments (3)I attended part of it (would have done more but our daughter lives there and we spent most of our time visiting her and her family). The garden tours are always one of the highlights of the conventions. It's fun to see how other people grow their roses, and you can get some good ideas from them. The convention this September will be in St. Louis. Hotel costs will be less and we will have some great tours. We will also have some outstanding speakers like Tom Carruth of Weeks, Gregg Lowery of Vintage Gardens, Steven Scanniello, and Thomas Proll of Kordes in Germany. Hope some of you can make it. www.arsconventionstl.com....See MoreNEW: 2nd annual Named/Rare/Unusual Seed swap!!
Comments (43)Wow -- is there still time for me to join in? I'm kind of a newbie but from your lists I see lots that I can send to fill wishes- so here goes. Any heuchera Coleus (black dragon or others) Columbine - single colored varieties- bright colors or an all white variety is better! Lobelias -- or other trailers for pots Black, rust or peach colored flowers for my peach garden Echinachea- other than white swan or the plain purple variety(Peach would be great) Daisies - have clara curtis, giant white, and white shasta-- my three little girls just love to cut and cut all season long and far be it from me to discourage future gardeners! Coreopsis of any variety I don't have (coreopsis I have include: pink, zagreb, seashell, mahogohny midget, moonbeam) Lavendar - Spanish Pink Forget me nots Black Eyed Susan Vine - all colors Gladiola Seeds Monarda Flowering Groundcovers -- nothing invasive like vinca or ajuga I would prefer not to get-- Daturas, Moonflowers, Four O'clocks -except for the variegated kind -would love those, Cactus, Succulents or shade lovers --other than what was listed above-- I have very little shade. Also not interested in herbs and have all my veggie seeds for next year allready....See MoreSD asking about less time with mom
Comments (17)*scarcastically* What my SO's DD used to do is highly effective. Here are the instructions to any child who doesn't want to go with their other parent: Step 1: Be anywhere in the world but where you are supposed to be at the designated pickup time. That way the parent picking you up has to drive to the pre-designated place. Step 2: When parent calls your cell phone, don't answer. This way you have plausible deniability. Step 3: When parent calls the parent you are with, have that parent not answer their phone. This will cause the picking up parent to have to wait. Step 4: Have the parent you are with call the picking up parent way later (and after you've done whatever it is you would've rather done than see the picking up parent) and say that you are all on your way home. Have the parent you are with say they are sorry they weren't there at the designated time and place but that the picking up parent can go over right now and pick you up. Step 5: HURRY inside the house really, really fast! Take off the cool clothes you wore to wherever you were and throw on the oldest pair of PJs you can find. Mess up your hair! Lay down on the couch and pretend to be asleep. Step 6: When picking up parent gets there, have parent you are with answer the door and say "shhhhhh.....she was asleep in the car so we brought her in and had her change clothes; you can take her in those PJs" And the result of all of this hard work is......you don't have to go with the other parent because they feel bad waking you up and say they can just come in the morning. They ask for you to call them when you wake up. Here's the important part: DON'T CALL! If you call, you'll end up going so make sure you don't call! Actually.....in all seriousness....maybe your DH should just tell BM he would like to modify visitation since SD's schedule is getting busier. Have a plan already made up to present to her....See MoreNeed serious advice re SD
Comments (25)"JNM, if you couldnt see the put down in it, your blind and deaf. I guess people here only see disrespect from stepchildren." People see what they WANT to see. People interpret things the way they WANT to interpret things. Personally, I've noticed a positive change in KKNY from when I first came here. But, if someone is dead set in keeping a battle going, they refuse to hear the other calling a cease fire. JNM is right. People are who they are and unless they WANT to change, they won't. Even if they want to change, sometimes they CAN'T. mommybear, I think your plan is a good one. It's important that your daughter doesn't feel like she's being punished for things someone else is doing. I'm interested in the statement: "We give a ton of positive reinforcement to SD but the minute we do she does something negative." because that describes my oldest son. He's 21 and as long as nobody tells him how great he's doing in something, he'll continue doing great. As soon as someone tells him 'good job', he starts screwing up. It's frustrating and the only answer we've been able to come up with is to not say anything at all. It's not a very good solution, so has anyone else has found something that works? (and it really is a disservice to him because he has lost a few jobs because his managers don't know that as soon as they praise his work, they run the risk of him messing up and it has affected him a few times in the workplace)...See MoreDLM2000-GW
