Bath tub Gripes
Comments (17)The last time I took a bath, I think I filled the tub with about 6 inches of water. BIG mistake! When this whale-size fanny sat down, it caused a tidal wave of the Perfect Storm proportions! Our fiberglass tub was so uncomfortable, I think I got more kinks in my neck from the bath. When it was time to get out, I had the presence of mind to let out the water ... what little water was left in the tub! I don't remember how I got out. I tend to block out traumatic experiences. I don't think I could even get into a claw foot tub now! I have trouble lifting my Bozo The Clown-size feet into a small tub. My favorite thing is to sit on my shower bench, put my shower head with the long hose on fire hose setting and just massage my shoulders, arms, legs and feet with it. I have been known to fall asleep in the shower as a result of it. But then ... I fall asleep at my computer at work so that doesn't mean much! Thanks for the hilarious story, toomuch. Luckily Bob is asleep and not giving me strange looks for laughing out loud....See MoreLedge for sitting to get into and out of Corner Tub
Comments (11)These types of tubs are very awkward to use and maintain. Especially in a drop in situation. If you shift the controls to one side, make sure that you can still easily reach them for filling when you are outside the tub. If you want a ledge to sit on to enter and exit, you'll want to NOT do a drop in mount. You'll want to do an undermount with a slab material over the rim so as to create a smooth transition ledge to around the rim, or you will want to minimize the ledge to be as small as possible so that you only sit on the rim of the tub. Make SURE that you have blocking behind the wall of all adjacent walls. It's the only way you can safely get in and out of these tubs. It's not just about being elderly either. Think pregnancy, or an injury that limits mobility. Been there and done that (frozen shoulder), and barely made it out of the tub even with help. I should have known better. A better solution is a different tub in a better location. Or even just a plain oval tub mounted diagonally across the corner. They are much easier to deal with. The times that two people will actually use a tub this size are limited to under 10 in the entire life of the tub. And yet, there it sits in most homes. A big space wasting expense that never gets used. Better to put the money in a better shower and do a much simpler tub. Comments (24)As long as at least one tub remains in the house, removing one shouldn't be a problem. Under this scenario, a tub would be in an auxiliary bath that is commonly used or available for use by children. In this case, no tub would be necessary in a separate master bath. If you had 3 or more baths in a house, at least one should have a bath. The bath versus shower controversy has been going on for about 50 years. While there are always exceptions, more and more adults have become shower only people. Adult bathers are a much smaller community and getting smaller everyday. Ideally, I would keep at least one bathtub in a home. By having a bathtub a potential buyer won't exclude your home when considering a purchase....See MoreHow far should the tub spout reach over the tub & other questions
Comments (20)Not a silly question. When you have water forcefully hitting the inclined side of the tub high enough up, though most of it will splash downwards, some of it goes sideways, and some of it -- counterintuitively -- splashes back upwards from where it strikes the side and you can actually have a small puddle start to form on the floor in this area from water spray bouncing up and escaping this way. It the water doesn't hit the side of the tub, but only the bottom of the tub, it doesn't bounce high enough to do this....See MoreBeth D.
