Help, please. Living in a log cabin and needing decorating advice.
Comments (6)I also live in a log home, we built it ourselves (DH & I) 13 years ago. I truly like the cozy feel of all the wood but it does lack natural sunlight (which is why I am always outside!) Because our home is so remote, the only home on 27 acres and a dead end, I don't use window dressings at all, other than the bedroom, which does have blinds. This helps brighten it up quite a bit and I have a lot of lamps, plants, colorful scatter rugs, pillows & throws. This works well & I get a lot of compliments on my decorating. I will say this, at first, I went a bit crazy with "cabin decor" and I lean more toward rustic yet colorful now. Be careful not to try too hard for the lodge look as it can get old & boring quickly....See MoreI can teach, but I can't decorate. Small cabin remodel - help needed!
Comments (1)1. What color and type/brand of flooring would you recommend? Looking for a "wood look" flooring that will stand up to big dogs, dripping kids and is budget friendly and scratch resistant. No wood flooring will every hold up to big dogs. You'd be better off going with a wood look tile. They're not the cheapest, but they hold up well and won't need replacing after a few wet dogs run thru your new cabin. 2. What type and color of counter tops? Should the island and counter tops be the same or different colors? I love the look of quart, but would be interested in more affordable options that would hold up well. Since you say you're going for cozy, I'd suggest using the same color for a more harmonious space. Changing the color works well in larger spaces in my opinion. 3. The rectangular game table will be placed near the entry door. Looking for furniture placement ideas and decorating ideas. Not sure about this one, sorry. 4. What should I do on the wall with the fireplace. My husband is hanging a television at the top...ugh! Between the windows? The backlighting is going to be a pain to look at while watching dark shows. Please also be careful about curtains at those windows so close to the fireplace. 5. What color appliances? If budget allows, you can get "panel-ready" appliances and you can put in wood paneling. That could be great for a cozy cabin look. If budget is an issue, then I'd go with stainless steel, should match well with a rustic cabin feel....See MoreI am looking for help with white washing vs just painting a log cabin
Comments (17)You might gain inspiration from the makeover Sarah Richardson did for a contemporary ski chalet. She has a series of videos on YouTube and pics on her website. In your case, I would add contemporary not farmhouse details. Here’s the link for the kitchen reveal video. https://youtu.be/k5mEc-fhR0I I’ve seen some problems with a translucent too white paint wash on cedar and pine, the wood can go pink in a big hurry. Not good. I do like how Sarah painted out some timbers, she left the ceiling as is in the great room but painted the wood ceiling in the master bedroom. Take it slow. Leave the FP stone as is, I’d try a large painting over the fireplace, not the tv. Lightening the kitchen counters and cupboards will go a long way....See Morehelp with log cabin
Comments (11)What color was it before? Stained or painted? If previously painted, then your options may be limited due to leftover paint in places. Will there be any chinking? What is your personal style on the inside? Woodsy? Beachy? I like log homes best when the wood is stained a woodtone and stands out! If it were mine, I think I'd go for a nice medium tone, not too different from what it looks like now. Not too dark, because there are already shadowy areas on the porch. Not too yellow, that would make the roof look more purple. Is this the front door? It needs to stand out much, much more. Maybe a arbor overhead? A prominent piece of art next to it, and paint it a really eye catching color! I agree about the downspout and rainchain, or even copper. Then I would fill the flower bed with ferns and hostas (if shady) or wildflowers (If sunny) It's a charming house!...See MoreLK Homes
