my Norway Spruce trees look like they are dying - please help me
Comments (11)Spruceman only checks in with us here very occasionally, but yes, his Norway spruce experience and advice is unparalleled. One thing that jumped out in OPs old original post is the paucity of sunlight-only 3 hrs. per day-falling on his trees. Combine that with close competition from larger and more well-established pines nearby, and it seems there would be some struggle here. Neverthelss, these tree species are very compatible, both having roughly the same requirements as well as growth rates (fast). I'd look to carefully trim some branches if any are especially inhibiting the newer trees. I'd pay attention to water needs as the older, more established plants are going to hog it up. And please, do not buy "fertilizer spikes". They are a bad idea whose time has come.......and gone. +oM...See MoreMy Sapodilla tree is dying, Please Help!
Comments (4)That looks awful. My lawn person did the same thing to one of my fig trees with his weed eater. For my fig tree, I wrapped the damaged trunk with a brand of nursery grafting tape called Buddy tape and wrapped a plastic trunk/tree guard around the bottom to protect the base for the future. A good grafting tape is perforated to let air in and will stick to itself making a tight seal. Several leaves had to be removed that were wilting so the tree could support the other leaves. I also started an air layer on a side branch in case the tree doesn't make it. I don't know if the same thing will help save your tree or not. Stark Bros. Nursery claims "tree guards do not protect against string trimmers/weed whackers and the like" but I've found it helps with small trees like ours. Best of luck with it....See MoreHow can I help my string of hearts? Please help!
Comments (5)These can be a bit tricky but they're tougher than they look. Sounds like yours has a rootball which is thirsty, but can't take up they water from a hardened off rootball. So, you can soak it in an inch or 2 of water, or take it out of pot first, rough up bottom roots & soak for a while. OR, poke some holes in the top of the mix & water directly into them. In several months you might remove the mix from the roots completely & refresh w/ new mix. A few yellowing leaves can be removed, no problem. Also, I'd remove that mossy stuff, doesn't help the plant & just gives insects a potential home. One of mine, showing some of its tubers. I usually cut these back every year or 2 & restart them. They sometimes look scrappy, & can benefit from restarting. One can take stem or tip cuttings & root them in water, too....See MoreAre my succulents/cacti dying? Please help!
Comments (3)The pots do have drainage holes and I used potting mix advertised as fast draining for cacti and succulents. Would you recommend I take them out to repot with perlite or pumice added? I’m realizing now I did go overboard with size. I had thought bigger meant more room for root growth but did not know it would lead to more moisture retention, which makes sense now. Any recommendations for what to do? I’m most worried about fairy castle, so I cut a few healthy looking branches off with hope to propagate if the whole plant can’t survive....See MoreTreegeek Z6a (Boston)
