I agree, various theories can be applied to the built environment in specific instances. Wallpaper, however, is subject to the same affects of inherent light and dimension as paint. Just because the colorway within the wallpaper pattern is pleasing and harmonious its own two-dimensional existence, doesn't guarantee it going to translate well into context covering the proportions, the walls of a three-dimensional room and its unique atmosphere. Concepts of color do get confusing. In order to grasp it better you have to be introduced to the parts you don't know - you can't understand thoughts and theories you don't even know exist. If we're never exposed to new and maybe *bigger* thoughts on color beyond our own comfort zones, then nothing's ever going to change. No one learns anything, no one moves forward. Suggesting paint color names is very helpful. As many of you know, I've done plenty of that around here too. When there are opportunities to explore further past paint color names and numbers, perhaps we should take 'em. And I don't mind pushing for that because this is a public forum, after all, and people are free to stop and read, respond, or just SCOB (scroll on by).

Perhaps a sagey gray green? Is it truly purple or more of a cordovan color (which is how it reads on my monitor)? If it's a cordovan, one could do a lot of things to make it work if you like the color. I have a F&B color called "Pelt" in my guest room. I used white woodwork, white bed spreads, and yellow/white plaid taffeta for festoon blinds, dust ruffles and headboards. It looks fabulous.

We have a small dining room that is dark since we have wrap around porches. The floors are dark and the dining room furniture is trimmed in black. I can’t change the amount of natural light it gets so just decided to embrace it. Painted it Spring Moss by Behr. The room has 9 1/2 foot ceiling but the room itself is small. I just went with chair rail molding around the room. If wainscoting is not an option, perhaps chair rail molding in white against what ever color paint you choose. Best of luck to you.

Address lighting first if the room is dark. Maybe higher wattage bulbs on a dimmer switch? More lights? If you paint, then decide it didn’t work well enough and change the lights, you may not love your paint color.
