High Country Roses Sale!!!!
Comments (56)Joey, I have also considered Audrey Hepburn. I think I picked her up and put her down 3 or 4 times this spring. But I was concerned she wouldn't be cane hardy so eventually put her down. Kimberly, This is my 1 yr old Dick Koster today, as in 5 min. ago when I took the photo. The bush is still tiny but the one's at HCR were bigger. We increased the water to a number of our roses this year because they didn't have much growth. This is one of them that we may have been starving. I was grumbling to myself that I needed to pick more big roses after seeing Audrey and the Baroness, and then while out to take the Dick Koster photo, I saw I did have an enormous bloom on my Pretty Lady Rose. It is the only bloom on the bush right now so that must account for it's size. I'm really looking forward to my Parade Day explosion in a couple of days. The top is thick with buds. My Playboy continues to delight. Hard to get a good photo because it is so sparkly that it tricks the camera. It is a really good continual bloomer for me. You probably can't see it but there are loads of buds in between all those flowers....See MoreNorthern Wyoming rose report...
Comments (98)Joey, I always appreciate your posts because I know that whatever works for you will have a good chance working for me. I just read through this thread and am really thankful your Mountain Music was planted as a band in the fall and survived! I planted my wee little lass just a couple weeks ago and she’s maybe a foot tall. I’m a little worried though since you have pretty reliable snow cover all winter...we get tons of snow but go through a lot of freeze-thaw cycles too. I guess we’ll see how it goes. To chime in on an earlier conversation, I had a coral knockout rose that I ended up getting rid of but my one Home Depot, dime-a-dozen rose that I’ve actually grown to quite like is Oso Easy Peasy. She went through pretty fierce transplant shock after I planted her but quickly rebounded and is constantly covered in blooms. Black spot clean and a really lovely shape to the foliage kinda sealed the deal. Thanks for this thread, from one cold-zoner to another! I appreciate hearing about your experiences....See MoreOpinions Needed for Savannah Sunbelt Rose
Comments (25)Markay: From Wikipedia: "Much wood ash contains calcium carbonate as its major component, representing 25 or even 45 percent. Less than 10 percent is potash, and less than 1 percent phosphate; there are trace elements of iron, manganese, zinc, copper and some heavy metals." From Straw: It's the calcium in wood ash that makes roses grow tall. I posted a "before" pic. of Lavender Crush at 2.5 feet tall, and an "after" Lavender Crush at near 10 feet tall AFTER I dug down to the root level to put pelletized lime & alfalfa. I also posted a pic. of 1st-year-own-root Munstead Wood threw a 3 feet octopus cane after I threw some gypsum (calcium sulfate) on its dinky pot (2.5 gallon). I don't give lime to Savannah during tons of rain. Calcium is the "building block" for plants, it generates growth in canes & roots. Phosphorus actually shortens plant since phosphorus is for branching of roots & branches into a "rounder" shape. Phosphorus helps with more blooms through more branching and cluster-blooming....See MoreHigh Country order
Comments (174)@mmmm12COzone5 Wow that Parade Day looks so good. I just LOVE that color. I wish I could edit my post so I could remove "climber" because I don't think it comes as a climber.. I must be high on rose shopping because it's the second mistake I've made recently. Goodness gracious. How nice to walk through all the roses High Country Gardens grows. I'm glad to read more good things about them. I even called them to add a few more! I added these: Bolero Winnipeg Parks Darlows Enigma Midnight Blue Marie Pavié When the roses arrive in spring I'm going to pot most of them up a bit. I may squeeze a few into the vegetable garden as well....See MorePerma n’ Posies/9A FL
