Tango, your rebar bender, other tools, reviews?
Comments (25)The stuff on top of the bender is the sizing system & lever attachment. They come with a variety of different rollers & positioning mounts to make various sized bends. I got mine, a bench mount, for $49 bucks on sale so 80 for a floor model isn't bad at all and it sounds like you have the right situation to install it properly. Just anchor it deeply and solidly. As for the shattering problem, it's just the nature of the metallurgy involved. Rebar is specifically designed to match certain strength properties of concrete (another thing to keep in mind when experimenting with reinforcement) and very sensitive to heating, cooling and tempering in general. Combine that with questionable quality controls, bending, twisting and welding and it is fairly easy for it to get outside the envelope and crystalize. When working it, simply assume that it could shatter at any moment. It won't and only rarely does...but at least that way you get don't surprised when it eventually does. And keep in mind just how much heat you are generating when you bend any piece of metal and go slowly. Remember, bending it back & forth is an easy way to get a piece of wire to snap off where you want it...and rebar is just a big, thick piece of wire. Copper is fine on it's own and the lovely green patina is one of my favorite things to see in a garden...however, copper & concrete don't play well together. The oxidation is accelerated in concrete and can cause big problems and even spalling....See MoreDaughter's car got T-boned today, grrrrrrr update
Comments (8)Too bad a person can re-edit ones post to fix such things, or spelling and grammar errors one didn't notice before posting. Police called me last night and told me he gave the lady a $400 ticket. Someone will also have to pay the towing and an impound fee of $100 per day to get the car back. Seems the lady a record 4 pages long of driving offenses. She of coarse has no license or insurance, and the car isn't registered to her. Seems it belongs to an uncle. Sounds like she's some kind of druggie who has a habit of getting doped up then drives. None of that helps me of coarse. Just puts that lady in a deeper hole to dig out of some day if she ever chooses to try. Don't understand why we all have to put up with such people. She should have been in jail years ago imo. So, she got a ticket? She probably got dozens of them she never appeared for already, and I'm sure she'll be driving as soon as she can get her hands on another car....See MoreGift for 16 y.o. boy under $50
Comments (34)Based on my neighbors and people I see around here, they would wear that hat all the time. We don't have sidewalks so walkers & runners are in the street. With the cars. I still see everyone, except me, wearing earbuds. Perhaps the craziest was a guy on a recumbent bike, so he's down low and easier to overlook. He was riding in the traffic lane of a busy road, not my little side street, without a helmet and wearing earbuds. Yes, a bike is entitled to use the street but doesn't he have to obey other traffic safety rules? And shouldn't he err on the side of caution since he has MUCH more to lose in a fender bender. Maybe they figure, with more and more hybrid cars, you can't hear them coming so why not enjoy a few tunes up until your death. I *almost* wish I needed a $50 gift for a 16 yo boy, there are so many great ideas here....See MoreNow the left side of my car got hit today :o(
Comments (35)Glad that it wasn't a bang on the driver's door, girl! Not long after I got this car, I thought that I went into an intersection on a green ... and a car that came through three lanes hit on the driver's side ... but back at the back tire area. I was ... substantially ... very substantially ... thankful! It seemed to be the general concensus that I'd run a red light ... but I figure that he ran a yellow, as when my car had been turned around about 180 degrees - there, staring at me through the windsheld, was a green light, in the same direction that I'd been travelling ... and if I'd run a red light, it should have been red! Anyway - I also like to pick spaces in parking lots where I can drive out (but must confess to being a bit too lazy/(mis-guided?) to back into empty spaces). I hear that a bit of a longer walk is good for one's constitution? By the way ... did you say that the grandkid is wanting a car? Hhm-mm-mm-m! Hope that the rest of your weekend goes better. I, too, value my wheels ... and one needs be extra careful around here, for if one in 70s or higher is in a fender-bender or two, one is liable to get a letter from the Ministry of Transportation to say that they are cancelling one's driving permit. We have a discussion session of about an hour and a half with about a dozen others, with a test of knowledge and signs, with some being selected for a driving test, every two years after age 80. ole joyful P.S. As I was fairly sure that there were still quite a few good miles in that little 20-year-old Mazda that I'd bought only a few months earlier, after the accident I chose to repair it, at a cost larger than I'd paid for it ... partly for environmental reasons, as it costs a great deal of scarce and precious fuel to dig iron ore from the ground, smelt it, then carry it through all of the manufacturing operations ... plus add quite a lot of petroleum-based plastic, to build a new one, but repair is mainly a lot of work. In addition to the amount that's added to global warming ... and pollution. o j...See Moreglenda_al
