need help with furnishings our living room space

Need help furnishing our new home. This is the living room. Any tips? I like a more modern farmhouse look. The kitchen is all white marvel in the back. a color scheme that can compliment both area. White and lavender is what I am thinking (for the kitchen)

If you're keeping the window shades, you might like a similar tone across the room - of chairs? as a balancing symmetry - like this 'wicker color' with pretty purple and green...

Hi, Lori. One can't go wrong with a sofa and two armchairs. But if you have a family, sectionals are great, too. Modern farmhouse typically incorporates wood, natural texture and a light color palette, such as below:

My recommendation is to decide on your furniture lay out, then buy a rug that will define the seating area. If you would like help with furniture arrangement, we'll need measurements. Photos of all four walls are also helpful.

1) wall may be structural 2) you may have to replace all the flooring if you remove it, unless you have more on hand 3) I'm confused, because it looks like the dining room is already in the main space, up by the kitchen/window where there's a chandelier hanging down. then I see two ceiling fans worth of LR space. the more enclosed room to the left looks like an additional/separate room, maybe intended as an office, or as a more enclosed space (family room) for TV watching. if you open it up, you need to think hard about where you are going to put the TV with furniture facing it, and how you will subdivide the rest of the space. If you can draw a sketch of the floorplan, with measurements, including things like whether there's a closet near the front door, we might be able to rough in some different arrangements to help you visualize what you might be able to do with the spaces. It's a bit too hard in the abstract to tell whether this is all one big seating space, or whether it's big enough for an entry zone or game table and a separate conversation area, and what would happen if you added in yet more LR space...

Why not put a pair of comfy armchairs flanking the fireplace? Style the shelves with 1/3 books, 1/3 large decor items and 1/3 open space. Are there any outlets there for lighting? Put TV on the long wall where the black chair is. Set it on a credenza 25% wider than the TV. Float a small scale sofa perpendicular to the stair and fireplace with a coffee table in front of it. Put a console or sofa table on the wall behind the sofa with two lamps and art. Leave a 30" traffic path between sofa and table if possible. Art 5" above the mantle no wider than the firebox opening. No need for a ceiling fixture; just upgrade lighting to 4000K LEDs for daylight feeling night or day. Is there lighting in the stairwell? It needs some. Straight leg chairs will be best because splayed legs will block the traffic path and be hazardous. Not sure an egg chair will work there but its fun. Too tall and big I think. Go for a low profile like the green one and you can fit a pair of them in.

Put two small swivel chairs - one in front of the bookcase and one to the right of it, or put a five foot loveseat in front of that window (measure twice, buy once). Furniture with narrow armrests take up less room, and furniture in stores look smaller than it will in your home. Add a round ottoman than comes apart for seating.

With high windows and in only 1 area, trying to keep focal wall from looking hodgepodge, so from our R to L the heights 'step down': Windows are the tallest in height, then art over fp [lower], then to left of fp a tv unit like this [that covers it].

I looked at my lavender post above, and then noticed your wall color could be described as Woven Wicker SWilliams. So as to light-ish lavender in kitchen - and Wicker LR: I'd use purple items a bit saturated/ darkened to "match the intensity" of wicker walls...

Idk about lavender, sort of specialized.... teal is more "all around typical" and for your rooms, maybe....
