Wow - thank you so much for your helpful responses! I just love this website :-) I've decided to go with the white hex and the Laticrete Silver Shadow grout - I looked online and saw several pictures and I really like it! (is it darker or lighter than the Mapei Warm Gray Bill V? I think they are very close according to this website - http://www.grout-aide.com/colors2.html) I actually really like the black/white example Bill V shared as it doesn't over-do the black flowers but after a bit more thought, I think that the all white hex will give us more options if we decide to change the paint later or the next homeowner has all boys :-) I'll have to save my idea of having black honed granite for our kitchen remodel next summer! * Side note, this will just be the girls' bathroom - we are currently adding a master upstairs as well and a powder downstairs for guests - you will certainly be seeing many more questions from me as we get closer to making final decisions in both of those spaces as well ;) Thanks for all the responses re: grout not matching between the two spaces. Bill V, I'm definitely giving consideration to both being the same as you suggest but going to leave that up to my husband to decide. I saw a picture on this forum that has the grout you suggested as their surround and it looks lovely with the chrome!!! alku05, yes, please share pictures! Does your granite have the garnet speckles? I read online that some of these slabs do and some don't - obviously with any of the paint options I'm looking at the red garnet speckles won't work ;) I also read that this slab resembles marble but without as much worry about staining - certainly something I'm going to look more into! - On that note, do you think the space will look balanced if I picked a granite like this one (with grey and/or white tones) if we go with all white and just the lighter grey grout? I have the Subway Ceramics Avalon / Minas with a medium gray grout. And a Shaw's white sink, if anyone is considering that, by the way. (My contractor could have ordered it directly, but at his request, I went through a tile store, and by the time everyone had put their sugar onto it, it was OBSCENELY expensive.) I'm not an installation expert, but at least with the Subway Ceramics, the installers use little plastic spacers between the tiles (I think some others have their own spacers?) when they put them up, they don't do it freehand, so how much grout you get is a function of 1) the limits set by the curvature of the tile and 2) what size spacers they use. So you might be willing to go a little darker with a smaller grout line, or with a handmade tile that refuses to go close together, you might want to stay light. The traditional color is close to concrete. But most modern people don't seem to like that, so do what pleases you!

For the last decade, I have used SW Westhighland White throughout my house -- all trim (semigloss), all ceilings (in flat), and closet interiors (matte), and even my exterior trim (exterior semigloss)). I think it looks fabulous with everything. I have all sorts of wood tones (natural oak, medium cherry, many antiques), grey paints (including Mindful Grey), and lots of colors (cottage-y colors of blues and greens yellows and even some brighter colors in kids' rooms, etc). I haven't found a color it doesn't look great with. I also have some (cheap) white big box cabinets in laundry rooms, with Westhighland White for the trim (including baseboards) in those rooms as well. This is actually the second house I used it in throughout for trim and closets, and it looked great in my old house, too. Great color, IMHO. Not yellow, not beige, but not cold white, either. I used SW Extra White as my trim color in my first house (over 20 years ago), and, over time, I didn't like how cool it looked, and it also didn't cover very well -- I think because it is just such a pure white. It looked almost purple in some rooms, especially when I used a cheaper SW line for some rooms (never again, but I was a poor grad student back then). Westhighland white has just enough pigments to cover really well in one or two coats (one if repainting white trim or primed white boards, two if being really picky or covering a color). Check out Westhighland White. It's a great color IME, and as my go-to white for 11 years, I still love it and can't imagine not loving it. (FWIW, I use Duration for walls and have recently discovered Masterhide -- tinted to my color -- for ceilings. Great coverage and much cheaper than the ceiling paint.)

If trim in MBr doesn't work, try White Dove. Without seeing the tile in person I can't advise as to whether it will work. I like to prime and paint a piece of trim (about 12" or so) so I can get a good idea of the color and carry it around with me. White Dove is a no, go with a white that doesn't have obvious tones jumping out at you (yellow, pink) when you compare the tile and paint side by side. Again, working up a trim sample is always better than choosing off the paint chip. Try Cotton Balls (OC 122), Cloud White (OC-130), or Decorators White
