Sub-Zero vs Liehberr
Comments (14)jbril375 - did your wife test out the shelf with jars and stuff? I ask, because I'm 5'3" and initially thought it would be a problem, but in fact has turned out well. I use the top shelf in the fridge for all those pickle and sauce type jars, that clutter up the rest of the shelves and aren't needed every day. Admittedly, it means I'm not using the entire shelf depth, but two rows of jars is all we actually use anyway, and I can reach those OK. I can see what they are, by looking up through the glass shelf. The top shelf in the door I use only for eggs - I can use the egg box itself to push open the shelf cover, slip the egg boxes in and out. I don't have to lift the cover open fully, in order the remove the egg boxes. I just mention these things because I think it's such a good fridge, that I'd hate someone to avoid it without having really tried out how they'd store things....See Moresub-zero vs GE monogram reliability?
Comments (1)I think comparing a product from 9 years ago in any product is a streatch. If you believe that Sub has ignored it's past and has not changed in the last 9 years then take your chances on GE. I looked at it in the other way. Fridges is Subs core and main business. They have added some basic changes to the fridges. I have open the 632 and the new BI48 and picked the BI48. I looked a number of fridges including the GE and the Miele versions. Make sure you go and look, open, poke, measure the sizes inside. Take some pictures of each and themn imagine how it will all work. I went for the 48 due to space and sizing. We do not plan to have any other freezer space. Good luck/hunting...See MoreSub-Zero IT-36CIID vs. BI-36U
Comments (10)KitchenGal: FWIW, I'm 5'1" and gave up on integrated models because of it. Even though I love the style of a French door fridge, I'm going to the SZ SxS because of the abundant and convenient space in fridge AND freezer (freezer in 36 FD was very low/small) and for the very convenient water and ice dispensers (available in 42" as malba stated above). But I used a FD LG for 10 years and tired of (what was for me) the hard-to-use freezer… We will not have additional fridge/freezer for ecological reasons, so the SxS is a good choice for us....See MoreRepair 25yr Old Sub-Zero or Buy New (Not Sub-Zero)?
Comments (21)All I can say is, in our former home, a small ranch with a small kitchen (no eat-in area), we were young, with a very young child and on a very tight budget. The one thing I insisted on, when we could finally afford to make changes to the ancient kitchen, was a SZ fridge. We put in Formica counters, vynil floor, and a very basic range, with microwave above. The splurge, the one diamond in the room, payed us back many times over. During Hurricane Sandy, our neighborhood was without power for two weeks. All of our neighbors had to discard their food within 2 days. Our Sub Zero was still cold 10 days later. Even the ice was still firm! Why? Because SZ has the best insulated fridges in the business. In other words, I would pinch pennies everyplace else, in order to get a SZ. Btw, that old SZ was from 1990....See Moreostrich
