Small entry - what kind of rug with this console?

Hi! Trying to furnish my small entry. Love this console table on houzz and have these lamps. Struggling to figure out what color of rug goes - the house is grey/black/hints of navy. Have already tried and returned a few navy rugs - just did not look right on the dark wood. And don't like "busy" pattern. Entry is a bit dark. Any advice appreciated!! (or even suggestions on wall decor! but looking for rug first) Thanks!

Do you need a rug? We just have a small one for people to wipe feet on but otherwise left it open and most of our friends now I think about it have the same or not even the small one inside the door.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Where the entrance widens is actually where to kitchen begins (appliances are hidden to the left), I've added a wooden bar table and black chairs that go up against the right wall in the kitchen. The length of the entrance before it widens is actually 10ft now that I'm measuring it with tape. I'm picturing a 6ft runner at the entrance and then a 3x5 area rug in the kitchen (where it widens in the pic). Do you think the runner and area rug should be a set that go together? Any help with that would be great!

THE RULE Is don't make a second post!! Go to a real carpet store, ask to see stair runners that come in 36 inch widths.Have it made to the length you need and backed with non skid. Or look at area rugs in 3 x 5 for the entry if that fits.. No doormat sizes. Ready made runners will be too narrow for your space No to the rug under table. You need an 8 x10 and I doubt that fits. Nothing is far better, than a too small rug.

I'm still not getting a sense of your style...what is drama to one person may be crazy to another. I'd suggest searching in houzz for wallpaper and foyer in photos and see what might appeal. If you're going for modern drama then a large graphic may suit you. But keep in mind that it's not just the color but the level of contrast between the color and the background that's going to count in terms of how 'disturbing' the pattern is. If you're looking to warm up the area, then a woven texture could be what you want. This is an example of vibrancy driven by the boldness of the graphic design, the repetition of the pattern and the color contrast. It's certainly dramatic, though I couldn't live with it. And be aware that some papers really speak to a specific style be it asian influence... ...or traditional...

The table in the front hall looks great! Yes, I would use 2 ottomans. Are these colors that you are using in other rooms? The front hall sets the tone and those colors should be use in some measure throughout the home. You could put art in the tall space if you want. I don't think a mirror would be an issue with our central vac, though.

KJ - we put a small one next to the door/bench area to put shoes on when it is winter/rainy season here but it goes away 75% of the year. I can't imaging going back, wood is way easier to keep clean than my rug there ever was!!

I agree that going without a rug is probably your best move. You can follow your heart for what to put on the wall -- one always should, anyway. If you feel lost, I suggest you look at clean, modern abstracts for a start, in colours you love. I'm not directly recommending this painting, because it's sold, but it's a good page to look at, anyway. I can just imagine something like this above that console. In terms of wider decoration, you could then use the colours in the painting by carrying them through to adjoining rooms. There are so many ways to do that.
