Small entry - what kind of rug with this console?

Hi! Trying to furnish my small entry. Love this console table on houzz and have these lamps. Struggling to figure out what color of rug goes - the house is grey/black/hints of navy. Have already tried and returned a few navy rugs - just did not look right on the dark wood. And don't like "busy" pattern. Entry is a bit dark. Any advice appreciated!! (or even suggestions on wall decor! but looking for rug first) Thanks!

Do you need a rug? We just have a small one for people to wipe feet on but otherwise left it open and most of our friends now I think about it have the same or not even the small one inside the door.

RUGS! Need help choosing entry rug and runner! What are the rules?!

THE RULE Is don't make a second post!! Go to a real carpet store, ask to see stair runners that come in 36 inch widths.Have it made to the length you need and backed with non skid. Or look at area rugs in 3 x 5 for the entry if that fits.. No doormat sizes. Ready made runners will be too narrow for your space No to the rug under table. You need an 8 x10 and I doubt that fits. Nothing is far better, than a too small rug.

DK- Last year one of our cats ate my entire ASPCA approved pet-friendly palm plant. He ate little bits at a time so as to not raise suspicion. When all was said and done, we had spent $5,000 in surgery & vet fees to have the contents of my plant removed from Hobbes’ lower intestines. I love love love the look of real plants in any interior space. If I could, I’d fill up my entire house. Unfortunately I can’t risk endangering my babies again. I don’t know what’s wrong with them lol. The other day my husband dragged a leaf in on the back of his work boots. maybe you could do a bench there a place to take off shoes or set stuff. or you could do a large canvas. I think you need to increase the size of the mirror over the table as well, perhaps circular shape to break it up a bit.

KJ - we put a small one next to the door/bench area to put shoes on when it is winter/rainy season here but it goes away 75% of the year. I can't imaging going back, wood is way easier to keep clean than my rug there ever was!!

I agree that going without a rug is probably your best move. You can follow your heart for what to put on the wall -- one always should, anyway. If you feel lost, I suggest you look at clean, modern abstracts for a start, in colours you love. I'm not directly recommending this painting, because it's sold, but it's a good page to look at, anyway. I can just imagine something like this above that console. In terms of wider decoration, you could then use the colours in the painting by carrying them through to adjoining rooms. There are so many ways to do that.
