Accent wall placement and color in open floor plan rowhouse

We knocked out all the walls and put the kitchen at the back, going with basic white grimslov cabinets and countertops... kept wall color neutral throughoutand now figuring out where to add color in this neutral blank slate. We have a sectional sofa that is gray going in the living room area by our front door.

We could paint the wall behind the couch (first area where you walk in) something.... maybe a blue-ish color? Or we could paint the accent wall the next section down in the dining area (middle area before kitchen).

Or we could try those adhesive wood plank wall tile things such as stikwood... that could even go on the wall around the dining room area doors?

Some colorful accent furniture? Budge is small but saw an inexpensive line at Target that comes in different colors...

I GOT SO LOST IN looking at your wonderful house and the view!! Are you near the water maybe, and up high?. I couldnt tell what i saw out there. Gorgeous! Anyway. I think you've nailed it on the brown for the dining area, especially with the lighter floors. The entry door? I also like that deep brown against the brick but you COULD do a deep purple/violet or eggplant there but with the gold in the side light...hmmm. Do I see a burgundy swatch on the kitchen wall? That might look nice. As far as the prints on mantel. I see something more abstract with some color and rounded or wispy shapes to contrast all the straight lines I see, and keep the prints propped in various sizes, 3 of them since you have '2 of' of other things there. Maybe you should build a built in lower bookcase/console unit that would match the trim and put the TV on that where the tv is now. I dont think it should be any higher than the top of the inside of the firebox so your TV would still stay at an eye level. Thats all i have for you right now. Good luck.

Help! Need advice on paint colors in open floor plan

Thank you for your opinions. Am going to get some paint samples this weekend. Will first try to see if I can make a shade of beige work...I really want the look of a white/carrera marble kitchen so might have to rethink paint color for entire floor IF I can't find the right cream/beige. I love the warmth of browns/beige, which is why I did not go with grey color originally in our living room area. BUT, the vision for my new kitchen is throwing me. My kitchen currently has brown cabinets so brown tone made sense when we moved in! Would appreciate any other specific paint colors to look at to coordinate with carrera marble. Thank you all!!

Do you want to stick with blue? Shade of blue? Blue and turquoise? Blue and green? Blue and turquoise and green? (like a peacock feather?) No rush to decide. Another thing you can think about is maybe a deeper color rug in the living room. Aside from the sheer practicality of it, a rich deep color rug gives such a sense of luxury. You can get this from a modern rug or a hand made Oriental rug in a woven type kilim or knotted Persian type rug. These days, you can get a quality hand knotted Persian rug for not much money at all. Here are some contemporary rugs with rich color. Actually my monitor may be not translating the color of for lovely living room furniture well. Are your sofas white or dove grey? Also, where will you be mounting your television? The picture that was too slim for over your sofa might be the right size to mount over your bar counter. Also, on the side of that arch where you have round mirrors, if you want to continue the blue aqua theme, there are wonderful round blue/aqua plates from different countries you can put up there. Do you have any friends or coworkers from Iran? If they go back on a visit, ask them to bring you back some decorative plates from Isfahan. They will just knock your socks off. Or a vase you can display on a pedestal that you mount on the wall. The pottery industry in Isfahan is ancient and very advanced and they specialize in the blue colors that you like. If a coworker is going to Jerusalem, or anywhere else in the Middle East, they also do wonderful ceramics in blue. In Indonesia they make exquisite beaded baskets. You have lots of ways to introduce more color in your lovely new home.

Generally speaking, yes…but it is not as simple as it sounds…what color/colors you choose should be based on how much natural light…how high the ceilings are ..what type of decor you are planning..the flooring….the fall back is white, but there are many shades of white as well

You will need an area rug to set off your seating area. Find one that has your basic wall color, or some hue of it, and then use the other colors in the rug to determine your accent colors in your new space. That will create interest, harmony in the open space plan, and easy to find accessories. So you will have a color pallet to start from. Buy a rug with colors you really like. Good luck!

Depends on your taste, but a faux grasscloth wallpaper might be a groovy choice for an accent wall. Really depends on your style. Can you post photos of some of the "stuff" you plan on putting in there so we can gauge your style? Or maybe you know it. Anyway, my long range plans are for grasscloth in my dining area. Google it and you will find some great examples. Note: go for the fake stuff. I lived with real grasscloth, it is extremely fragile and gets torn, dirty, stained and damaged easily.

What did you decide? i just bought a row house with a similar layout, painted it white and I can’t figure out which wall.

we kept the wall neutral and put up colorful artwork. We may sell the house anyway within the next couple of years

My last house was a row house. I sort of had an overall aesthetic for the whole space, starting with a warmer version of the palette in the living room and becoming cooler towards the back. I actually had bold wallpaper in the dining room which came with the house, and since that part of the house had the least natural light, I liked it. Not saying I would repeat it, but it is one way to go. In the end, the dining room walls ended up being covered by storage units that were practically wall to wall, so if I had to do it again, I would do as the original comments suggest, just stick with a neutral wall color and punch up the room walls with art. Cool art can go with you when you move too.
