Paint Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Help choosing fireplace color

Hello! We are building a new house and one of the final things to decide is the paint color for our fireplace. Below is a picture of the fireplace - our living room faces south-east.

We will be doing half stone on the bottom using the below black stone.

The walls and trim are all Benjamin Moore Super White. The flooring is a greyish brown hardwood.

We initially told the builder to paint the upper half of the fireplace BM Grey 2121-10. Now I'm wondering if we should go with an even darker grey/black so that it stands out more and/or matches the stone better?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

you could take the stone all the way up.

What if you did the trim work above the stone, like in pic #3, but painted it a dark charcoal like wrought iron or iron mountain? or even black?

Thank you for the detailed reply, Beth! Half stone is a compromise between us - I personally can't really stomach full stone even though I understand many people like it.

Wrought Iron was one of my choices before I blurted out Gray 2121-10. Do you think the darker color will work better? It will be for the entire wall of the fireplace from the half stone/mantle all the way up to the ceiling.

So I did this to close up a tv cubbie. I had reclaimed wood on hand to build a mantle and corbels. The corbels are longer than I planned, but I think it will be fine once it’s tiled. I want the tile to go around fireplace and down below corbels. Would love it here your ideas for masonry.

@leelee, LOL, yes the red/orange color is the color I'd be covering up. :) @celerygirl, thank you for doing that! That was really helpful and took your tip and tried this on the BM site as well! I am agreeing with you all that the lighter neutral color would work best. Here are the colors I've narrowed it down to that look good with BM Gray Mirage: BM 2146-60 November Rain BM HC-80 Bleeker Beige BM HC-173 Edgecomb Gray SW 7738 Cargo Pants (will need to compare the paint chip to BM Gray Mirage to be sure but looks good from what I can tell) If you have any thoughts on these 3 colors (or any others), I would love to hear them since I am absolutely horrible at picking out colors and have made some costly and timely mistakes in the past. It’s not clear - are you wanting to paint above the fireplace a DIFFERENT color from the rest of the room? I wouldn’t. If you don’t like the current color, repaint the whole room.

"My rule has been white and no frills: slab cabinet and vanity doors, bathroom counter is "blizzard”, kitchen counter is "organic white", baseboards are straight: no groves or bumps, all fixtures - from hinges & door knobs to faucets and cabinet handles - are polished chrome." Based on what you are saying here my mind thinks of something like this (I'm hoping the pasted link works!) all you can do is try a sample after the stone is in to see how it looks. I happen to like dark and dramatic. what will the other walls be? what kind of furniture are you doing? what overall look are you trying to achieve? (remember. it's only paint. I know it's a pain to redo, but it's the easiest fix to correct)
