TINY powder room....need some help!
Comments (14)The other thing you might want to consider for your bathroom is some kind of tile. I write about kitchens and baths all the time, and one of the things that most interests me is the absolutely mind-blowing things that can be done with tile. Last month I posted what was probably the thirtieth or fortieth blog on this subject (thereÂs a link below). ThereÂs a company in Italy that makes tile that actually look a bit like lava flows from a volcano! But what blew my mind all the more was the elegance with which this concept was evoked. And the many things that can be done with it. Working in a space that small, you will, after youÂve installed the toilet and sink have a very small bathroom. But you knew that when you started. So, what happens next? If you simply install a "standard" toilet and vanity, you will be left with a nondescript room that is much too small. On the other hand you can use something like the Volcanic Designer Tiles I wrote aboutÂor, quite frankly, about a bazillion other tile designs that are available these daysÂto transform that dinky little room into something that is a real conversation piece. All it takes is a momentÂs boldnessÂand some slick tile! Here is a link that might be useful: Cabinet & Furniture Trends & Information...See MoreNeed help with dining room/dining chairs, please! Comments (13)Don't write off fabric just yet. You could use microsuede, Crypton, or any of the newer indoor/outdoor fabrics available now. My DD chucked a whole bowl of tomato soup on one of my pale blue microsuede chairs and I swear it cleaned up perfectly. I think softer lines, and fabric, would bring some balance to the angularity of your room. I love the artwork and might think about pulling some color from the painting next to the stairs into said fabric. I know and love your kitchen from the KB. Nice to see you over here. looking forward to seeing more! :-)...See MoreNeed help figuring out a dining table for my Small Dining Room
Comments (9)I have about that size dining room with walkways on all sides. In my previous house, I had a 48" square dining table that I used when we moved in. I bought a 48" round table, it was amazing the difference it made. There are only 3 of us so I just keep 3 chairs around the table on a daily basis. You could do a drop leaf. I am not sure it you could find one in a style that would go with your house. I have 2 drop leafs that I use around the house and bring out when I need more tables for company but they are both Duncan Phyfe antiques. Another option would be a round with a leaf or two that expands for family. You'll be amazed how a round fits the space better. Something about cutting off those sharp corners make it easier to maneuver through the rooms....See MoreNeed help - tiny room with no windows
Comments (6)Oh goodness....an office with no natural lighting? You will not be as efficient in this space because of that (natural light helps us work actually!). Anyways, keep the paint color light...I don't usually like creams/whites as paint, but I would suggest that for this space to keep things light. For the desk, I'd either face towards the door with it pushed to the one side (in this case the desk would need to be about 50" long so you could walk around it). Or, I would have the desk facing one of the side walls - the desk would be as long as possible to fit in the space. Does that make sense? And yes of course remove the closet shelving. I thought about skylights, but unless this is your forever home and you know that you will always want this as an office as opposed to a closet, I wouldn't spend the money on the skylight. It would be very expensive, and very expensive to change back if you wanted a closet again (light in the closet could ruin your clothing)....See MoreSus
