asymmetrical windows flanking fireplace???
Comments (10)brutuses, what you are doing is exactly what I would like to do. The space is only 187 inches. I have more wall space room to the left of the slider (see pics below), but the deck does not continue there--so I can't have the slider going outside to nowhere. I do have room to do five foot sliders or french doors on either side of the fireplace. However, the problem is that we would have to custom order the doors at a much higher expense--and the bigger problem is that if we just do five foot doors, the floor vent will be in the spot where the fireplace is and will need to be plugged. If we do a six foot slider we can get a stock door, and the fireplace will be shifted over enough such that we can keep the vent and we can just keep the four foot window on the other side. I just don't know if that will look weird given the different widths of the glass on either side. Another option is to have the fireplace where the slider is now and then just have a slider on the other side of the fireplace where the four foot windows are now. Below are pics of the entire wall. We have a dining room set at one end (no windows on that part of the wall) and then the rest of the room is a living room area and the entire wall in that part of the room is the slider/windows. But I don't know if that will look even stranger with a strecth of wall space with no windows--the first part of the wall being the dining room hutch, then a fireplace, and then a slider or french doors--ie window on only one side of the fireplace. all opinions very welcome!!!...See MoreUrgent: need final changes for cooktop wall cabinet configuration
Comments (14)I did figure I would put pots and pans under the cooktop. I have 36" interior dimensions there with cooking utensils on divided tray in top drawer. To the right, I wanted a 3 bank with spices in top drawer, residual pots and pans underneath, towels, misc. items. I don't have the pots yet since we are switching to induction and need to buy new. To the right of that was a bank of two (1 deep for chefs drawer and another deep divided drawer for cutting boards). The left side is what is difficult because I don't have any baking items now but want to learn to bake bread and rolls. But that is going to be our baking area. I suspect things like flour in containers, bread bowls, baking utensils. I don't know if it's better to put these in one large wide 36" drawer or 2 smaller 18" wide banks. Perhaps I can do two large 36" with a divided drawer on top. It won't be symmetrical to the right side but that doesn't bother me too much....See MoreAsymmetrical Livingroom and recessed lighting. Comments (4)I have zilch expertise in lighting, but having noticed the assymetry, I would think the difference between the way the two spots light the brick will drive you batty in time. So first priority I think would be to make the spots symmetrical with regard to the fireplace. But really I'm commenting in the hope that the knowledgeable will chime in. You've been waiting a while for a response, it seems....See MoreWhat should I do with this asymmetrical fireplace?
Comments (28)Before the demolition started, the entire room was paneled. There was wood everywhere! I guess the wall on the right that was paneled balanced out the doors that were on the left cabinet, wood box and old mantel. We have replaced all the wood in the rest of the house with white doors and mouldings and all the walls are painted a light color. All the carpet in the bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, entry ways, living room, & dining room (literally wall-to-wall carpet) has been replaced with a medium stained hardwood floor and porcelain tile. The great room is going to have the same hardwood floors and the kitchen cabinets will be white....See Morebethwr
