Rabbit, Rabbit!

I don't think I ever told you all, but I don't say rabbit rabbit first. I say "Pele Pele rabbit rabbit." We visited Hawaii back in the 80s and I took a lava rock off the big island...Pele's island. In rapid succession upon returning, my MIL had surgery, then my FIL was ill, my brother broke his leg, then my Mom had surgery and then so did Dad. At which point, I figured, she was out to get me and I'd better pay tribute to appease her. Once I started saying Pele Pele Rabbit Rabbit, the rapid succession of ills stopped. Not that bad things haven't happened since, but they did slow down to a normal pace. Yes, I still have the rock.

I wanted to share how rabbit rabbit worked for me last month...

• DH brought the outdoor wreath down and we plugged it in to check it and a whole string was out. Rats! That was the pre-wired string it came with which means, chasing down each and every bulb would be nothing short of a nightmare on the thing. Would you believe I replaced the 2nd bulb and it lit?
• We then brought down our tree and plugged it in. Uh oh, a whole string on the tree was out. Would you believe I replaced the 1st bulb and it lit?
• I wanted to make a gold table runner for xmas and stopped in a fabric store, nosed around a bit and found this long bolt of gold fabric that had a nice sheen. That'd do nicely. Asked the gal how wide it was...120"!!! Whoa! No seam in the middle of my table runner...it just doesn't get better! But wait...I asked how much? She said $9.99/yard. Wow! So I got 3/4 of a yard ... didn't even have to cut it...just sew it together and the size was perfect. Wahoo!
• Then I went to sew it together and I had some gold thread on the bobbin, but not much. I was like, shoot...I know I don't have enough bobbin thread to make it.... I "always" run out of bobbin like 12" short of what I need. But to make the table runner, you have to sew the edges, but leave an opening so you can turn the thing inside out. Would you believe the bobbin ran out just where I wanted to leave the opening?!?

Thank you, will definitely try this. In the last two weeks my MIL had to have emergent surgery, leaving my FIL with dementia in our care, my husband is the only local one. My FIL is much worse than we had known, of course part of it was likely his confusion with the situation. Then my step-mom had a stroke after a planned surgery. And a few days ago my mother’s doctor called me to let me know that she was taking away my mom’s liscense as she had failed the mental acuity test, my mom has not been taking her meds and may have had minor strokes. My mom lives alone, this will need to change. While they are all older and we knew that overtime they were going to decline, all this within two weeks over the holidays is just crazy - so I am hoping rabbit, rabbit at least slows the problems down so we can catch up.

I did it!! Around 3:30 I woke up which lately is getting to be the norm, and for whatever reason I immediately remembered. I'm at the age where I forget quite a bit. :)

I said it to the cat as he is the only other one awake this early. That counts I hope!

I remembered. Twice actually! I woke up around 1 am and whispered it out loud. Then I got up to turn on the coffee and said it again just to be sure. I also did the penny thing and buried the money so let all hope for good luck this month and throughout the new year!

I cant complain either about the previous couple of months. DH had hip replacement surgery on Nov 9 and has done remarkably well. No complications, and he was released from PT last week. We last saw the surgeon on Dec 18, and he will still be doing follow ups for several more months, but DH is way ahead of schedule on progress.

I decided to get a couple of new things for Christmas decor for our mantle this year. I found a pretty, lightly flocked greenery piece at Target. Then found a wreath at PB that matched quite well on sale, and scored some garland at half price at Michaels for the tree that coordinated well. Went shopping again and found some pieces that for a small arrangement for the coffee table that coordinated. I added some fresh magnolia leaves, pine boughs and pine cones from my yard before the family came for dinner and it looked pretty good for this none-decorator. I think I got lucky.

I said it twice, too, OutsidePlaying! Getting over the flu and the noise woke me up at midnight so I said it then, and then I woke up again at about 4 am and said it again to make sure.

So glad your DH's hip replacement went well.

I’m just back from Europe so I woke for the day at 3:30 am. Surprisingly, I remembered rabbit, rabbit and whispered it to the universe. Hours later, when my husband woke up at a normal time (he didn’t go to Europe with me) I said it to him, just in case someone has to receive it. I’m glad to see above that I just have to say it, no witness needed. The trick will be to remember it next month.
