9" vs. 12" drawer base cabinet, sink base size and 4.5" space
Comments (18)Thanks for the headsup, angela12345. I measured the GD and went to HD to measure the interior dimension of a 30" sink base cabinet. My oh my, a 30" sink base is TINY! But, it will have to do for now. The 33" sink base has more space inside and I wish we could put it in our layout without my being so bothered. Sigh. Alas, I really can't stand how the spacing of the sink base is uneven in relation to the already lopsided window on the wall. It makes me feel I am living in the winchester mystery house! So far, I have ascertained that it can hold our trash, recycle bin and compost pail, with a smidge of room left for fire extinguisher. Definitely no room for insta-hot water heater and filter. So, we nix that from our wish list. I am looking for a single bowl undermount. After some online research, I found a kindred sink KCUS30A-10/10BG that I like but I don't know if it's available online or not. I wish I could use the ticor sink but the one I like needs a 33" sink base. Bummer. The kindred sink I am interested in will have interior dimension of 27"W x 16"L x 10"H. I think that will work beautifully for washing my long-handled pans. Here's the specs: http://www.kindred-sinkware.com/grfx/products/specs/KCUS30A_10-10BG.pdf. Comments (8)My cabinets are frameless (InnerMost). This is what the trash pullout cabinet looks like before it is installed next to the sink base: And opened: Kohler specifies that you use a 48" base under the sink. This allows for the entire sink to be in one cabinet and allows room for the provided utility rack and accessories. We didn't do that. We used a 36" sink base and this 18" trash pullout base together to support the sink. Look at the photos in my first post and you can see that the trash base extends past the end of the sink. To allow for space for the ledge, you have to cut the sides of both the sink base and the trash base. To provide structural integrity, we bolted the two cabinets together before we made the cut using sex bolts (AKA barrel bolts or connecting bolts): I think we used 4 bolts, two in the bottom section, one on each side of the cut. Look at the picture of the trash pullout. See the top of the drawer below the top of the cabinet? The cut we made did not reach the top of the drawer - close, but not all the way to the side of the drawer. This arrangement maintains the integrity of the base units and allows for a trash pullout and drawer as well as supporting the sink. Hope this helps. P.S. We used those sex bolts to hold all our cabinets together, generally two per, but it varied. I know that many installers just use a screw, but my research showed that these bolts are a better solution for frameless cabinets....See MoreMin Dimension of Base Cabinet if putting 45X40Cm Kitchen sink
Comments (2)without the integrated drain board I would probably install the 60 sink base. Beneath you will have space to store a fold away drain board and / or a few other items. i Don’t know who is providing the cabinetry but request no center stile if it is 2 door base cabinet. A single door can be better but does have that wider swing . Just depends....See MoreTed and Kathy Howe
