Flooring Design Dilemma

what color wood flooring goes well with mahogany trim?

We are replacing our carpet with LVP but trying to find a good color that looks good with this trim which I hate! The walls will be repainted some kind of off white as I don’t like the caramel/gold color. I’m thinking about using a gel stain on the trim to make it more brown but our house is over 2400 sq. Ft.....the floor will be going up against the tile in our kitchen which is a tan color, I’d love to do a lighter wood floor color just not happy with samples I’ve been getting, sample pic included of one of the light floor options

PAINT THE TRIM! Seriously, it is just PINE. You hate it? Paint it, it will be the cheapest improvement to the house. At that point the floor choices get much easier.

I know painting is a pain, but I wager you will have more success with primer and two coats of paint than you will with gel stain on a houseful of trim.

I was about to suggest the same. These are pine. They are not worth "saving" as a wood-look product. In fact the original attempt at stain is a bad one. Pine doesn't like taking stain. It really really doesn't. As Hallett & Co. suggests, invest in some HIGH QUALITY primer (Zinsser or better) and some decent sanding materials. Make sure you purchase primer that is SPECIFICALLY designed to go over oil based finishes/polyurethane.

Paint the trim whatever colour you desire (I suggest white...it is much easier to coordinate than any other colour). Just by doing this ONE thing, you will have updated your home by 40 years. I kid you not.

I am having difficult time finding paint color (I plan to use Sherwin-Williams) that goes well with Sapele natural, aka African Mahogany flooring. The ceiling and trim I will use SW "ceiling bright white" but I've tried 7 other color samples for the living room but they didn't look good with the floor.. I picked gray family, should I change to other color family? I have just had my walls painted. Now going to do the flooring. So glad I waited to do the flooring. The painting and new blinds make the rooms look so much brighter. Previously considered the Calypso oak before the painting and was hesitant. Does it have a warmer golden or honey cast to it. Pictures don't seem to be accurate. I need a lighter color don't want anything that is dark and going to show the dust etc. Some of the lighter colors looked washed out. Don't want a golden color either but would prefer it be a warmer look. Do you like the Calypso oak and is it easy to clean.

The issue that I see is that you have the rich wood tones with the pink/taupe undertones in the flooring and backsplash (assume counter top as well, but can't see it very well). I love a rich creamy white with the wood, but that will make your pink undertones scream pink. If you go too taupe/pink it will look wrong next to your wood. You are going to have to test quite a few whites to get to that balance that works with both. I get loving color, I do love some deep saturated color, but you already have the deep, saturated wood and too bright is going to fight with the wood. Here are a couple of mock ups. This is SW Jasper Stone and creamy. Do you see how pink your backsplash looks? Do you see how the brighter color is competing with the wood? This is Everyday White and Acacia Haze. The white is not great with the wood, but not terrible and doesn't make the backsplash scream pink. I thought about using a brighter white - might be a good answer, but not sure if it is too stark (Ibis White with Acacia Haze. I like the mid tone cabinet color, but tested one that is lighter and one that is darker so I am sharing.

I would love to know what you chose to do. I am dealing with the same situation but I refuse to paint my trim. Id love to refinish wood beneath but I have pets and it would get ruined. I originally wanted to match like 2nd pic but have also thought to go lighter

Megan I’m so glad I’m not the only one that has this dilemma lol!! As much as I’d love to paint our trim, it’s not an option, it would be too much as our windows are wood and stained also not the nice new vinyl stuff lol and we have a 2500 sq ft house! We just painted the room a white, it was that ugly caramel gold color! So looking at flooring this weekend! The one wall we didn’t paint I’m doing shiplap there!

If you want to go lighter with your flooring, at least paint the floor trim (same color as wall, in semi-gloss). You can keep your window trim as is.
