No place to put TV in great room!! Need help!!!
Comments (14)This is a suggestion that has worked marvelously for us - although it's not cheap. We have a projector tv. The screen is mounted on the ceiling in a bay area. My husband made a soffit to go in front of it so unless you're standing behind it in the bay area, you don't see the screen when it's in retracted. We don't have windows in this area because it's actually under the dining room bay window. The projector is attached to the ceiling, but I've seen them on the top shelf of bookcases. We love this solution because then the room isn't arranged around a large object that when 'off' is otherwise useless (and unattractive). I personally don't like entertainment centers because it just makes it take up more space - and most people leave the tv exposed anyway. The only issue with a projector tv is that you need the room fairly dark when watching so you would need some window coverings or shades that are room darkening. Man, is it ever great for popcorn and a movie, though! We haven't been to a theatre for a single movie since we did this....See MoreWhich color/style rug for tv room?
Comments (7)LOL, so pretty much everyone likes something different! Well, two votes for #1 (blue) and DH likes the blue one as well. Of course, that's the most expensive one . . . Snookums2, the picture doesn't really capture the wall color exactly. My mockup color is from the swatch and really does reflect the color accurately. I really like the the contemporary rug very much, but I think I'm drawn more to the colors than the design/style. As far as the table goes, I like the idea of a dark orange but what about a grayish green?...See Morewhat TV stand goes with this coffee table/floors
Comments (8)Very pretty table. I'd like to see a big rug under that coffee table to break up the wood on wood tone, if you hadn't already considered that. I'd hang the TV if you can. Run a shelf under it for the cable box or devices. Don't try to matchy matchy woods. You could also place a couple of club chairs kind of flanking the shelf with a little table between them. Or place a few stools or poufs under the shelf to create more conversational seating. Just so all seats in the room aren't pointed at the TV, even though the majority of seats are placed for viewing the TV. The additional seating under the shelf can be utilized for the conversation purpose of the room or the watching TV purpose. If you want a longer table under the mounted TV, I'd go with a painted piece vs. a stained piece....See MoreFurniture & TV placement for hard to decorate great room
Comments (14)Beautiful room even if it has so much going on with the off center fireplace, the windows, the door openings and the balcony. The way to make this room work is not to try to make it symmetrical. Consider the following: A TV over the fireplace is annoying to view. It is too high and I agree that it will go out of style for good. Consider locating the TV on the left wall under the balcony. Treat that entire elevation as one unit including the second floor. Paint the entire wall, the overhang and the second floor wall a dark color (midnight blue) and mount the TV on the wall with a narrow bookcase so that it cleans up the door openings, the balcony and overhangs. Paint the railing also and the rail itself - black. With the seating, a sectional will streamline the room and focus on the window and fireplace. Because of the high ceiling, you have the option for a higher back sectional. On the big blank wall (with your existing wall unit) invest in large art or a series of work to be grouped together creating a statement. Fireplace would be TV Note dark gloss wall...See MoreMandy Kollman
