Ugly bathroom tile... need help!!

I need help! This is the last room in remodeling my home. I have been avoiding this bathroom for 2.5 years because I can’t decide what color to paint it or how to decorate around the Ivy tile. This isn’t my forever home so I don’t want to redo all of the tile just because I don’t like it. I don’t want to paint it and run into issues with that. I just want to modernize and incorporate the tile into a cute design. House background: Cabin style house that has been modernize in Minnesota. I won’t paint the wood because it matches the rest of the house. Help! Rest of the house is painted Sherwin Williams Pavestone if that helps!

I would paint the wooden tub panels a white. It looks very dated.

you either embrace the green or try to ignore it.

embrace: deep earthy green

ignore: warm dark brown

i would embrace the green and then u have a color to accent with. you are definitely in a 'warm' palette so stay there and find a color that u love.

Here's some SW colors:

most are green but there are some brown/greens if u will

don't be afraid to go dark.... some of best bathrooms i have seen are dark and they look awesome!!

i would consider putting a light in the shower, moisture approved of course!!

I had the exact same problem. I picked out the vanity I wanted but did not think about the fact that it wasn't made to sit flush against the wall. I spent a month looking for something else, but in the end we decided to go with something shorter and have it not be against the wall. But we were going from 72" to 60" which is probably not workable in your mom's situation. I did find a lot of vanities that did have flat sides and could work in a corner, if you are willing to have the countertop fabricated. They just need to not have any trim detail on the top or bottom like the one you picked out does. I would just look at the ones without the pre-made tops. Because the pre-made top will still leave you with a slight gap because of the countertop overhang. This is an example: Avanity Modero which is sold everywhere, not just at Lowe's. The cabinet we ended up buying is an Avanity Madison which won't work for you, but I assume it is of similar quality. We are pretty happy with it. The drawers and doors have soft close but I do feel like the glides in my Ikea kitchen drawers are better quality. It is very pretty and I wanted a stained wood so I am really happy with our choice. If I had been willing to go with a painted finish, I think we might have stuck with the 72" Modero.

It's a rental. Don't waste money on stuff like that. Save it for a better use. Be glad you can paint, which most landlords don't allow. Agree with Patricia that that's all you need to do.

He thinks painting the tile will look bad, it will look painted. He's done it once before and the results were not great in his opinion. I will shop around for new bulbs that read less yellow. And I think I'll get the tile color matched and lightened to try a patch. Otherwise I'm also thinking White dove satin on the wall and semi gloss on the trims and waiscotting. that way I can play with colors in the rest of the room and am not tied to green ... if that makes sense. Thank you all for your inputs! I'll post a picture of the final product when we get there!

I think with the right prep, primer and paint you can do a lot with the space. The floor looks like a fairly pink beige to me, so you might try whites like Benjamin Moore Maritime White or Muslin which would be similar in undertone. Also paint the vanity cabinet all one color if you can. I've also seen DIYs of people painting their sinks. Worth researching at least!

My suggestion is to find a paint color for the walls that looks good with the main color of your tile, which is PEACHY. You can do a green, but then the peach of the tiles is going to jump out. Consider SW sand dollar, lightweight beige or kilim beige. Get some color chips in those families and see how they look with the tiles. Sample some paint when you have narrowed it down. Agree that changing the surround would help also. If you bring in dark green towels that pick up the ivy it will help make the room look more intentional.

This is a good example of how accent tile dates a design.

I would get a much longer shower curtain, and hang that bar up higher. I'd choose something simple, in a color that makes sense (cream?). Then, I would get one large rug to fill up most of the floor space. Voila! With shower curtain pulled mostly closed, you won't see the tile or the ivy.

I think the wood is all lovely, and as you said, it matches your cabin look throughout. I would not paint it white. It is not "dated". And besides, painting it white wouldn't change the tiles you are unhappy with.

I'd stick with the idea of creams. And, if I were going to paint anything, it would be to paint or change the black mirror. Maybe a brown color.

I quite like it, especially all the wood. I for sure like it more than my own hall bath -and there I indeed went with a long-as long as I could find and afford- curtain, and bigger rug covering almost all the floor, and I picked hand knotted wool rug too-they withstand moisture well actually, and they do elevate places they're used in, being real and pretty rugs. That's if you want to see less of the tile including Ivy accent and all

If you're ready to embrace it-and you're not against fluid patterns like florals or the like-I'd still find a nice shower curtain that has a pattern and colors on it that kinda support this ivy and yes, make it all look more intentional and maybe playful even, but that's on you to decide-do you hate-hate the ivy, or are you ok with letting it be part of the game?

Are you ok with patterns that are more floral etc, or it something you strongly don't prefer?

Geometrical bold patterns you have now are not bad-but they contradict ivy a bit. And they win-but ivy's still there trying to fight.

So. I'd either go for colors and patterns that are more "hey ivy let's stand together in the circle"-or if I don't want much to do with Ivy nor with the main tile-I'd go for softer colors in accents too, picking clues from tiles and wood, less bold and contradicting, more repeating. I see tile as a bit golden beige, a bit tan, a bit cream-so these would be my colors. Then it'll still be intentional. The color you have now on the walls works quite well-making it darker as suggested might look very cool too. I might want to check out this route, samples and all.

It's a good idea also to paint/switch mirror if you're up for this.

Tell us a bit more about your personal preference, and I might be able to look up something more specific. In terms of accents

And of course if you decide to paint-it's a good opportunity to change the lights, that said, if you don't like yours. I can't see them well on the photo.

I'm quite envious of your cabinets and wood paneling on the bathtub, I'd have fun decorating your bathroom. Regardless the fact it not my favorite tile, or the ivy accent which I wouldn't have picked myself etc-it's still a nice place to work with I think. So, waiting for additional info from you, about your preferences.
