Xmas Dinner Party
Comments (2)One thing I'm doing at my Xmas Morning Breakfast party is-every guest will be asked to share their 'most remembered Christmas, as a child'. If you are looking for a little game to 'spice up the night'? It's called "She's My Gal" You get as many couples as will participate. Then you have all the men leave the room-where they are asked to put on blindfolds. Meanwhile the 'gals' all take off their shoes & stand on a dining room chair (all placed closely, in a row). Someone guides the men back into the room-and they have to get down on their knees in front of the chairs. They have to guess which is their gal..by only touching them up to their KNEES! When they're positive they have found their gal..they are guided to behind her chair & wait until all the others are done. They all remove their blindfolds at the same time. This is so cute-especially if you have a tape recorder going-their comments are hysterical! It's ok if more than 1 guy picks the same woman. Good for some laughs!...See MoreLOOKING for: Side dishes that freeze well~Xmas dinner
Comments (4)Spinach Madeleine\ Spinach Madeleine, the most famous recipe from the River Road Recipes cookbook series, has undergone a makeover! Kraft Foods has discontinued making its jalapeno cheese roll which is an important ingredient in the original Spinach Madeleine recipe. As a result, River Road Recipes has developed a substitute for the jalapeno cheese roll. We believe your family will never know the difference! Ingredients: 2 packages frozen chopped spinach 3/4 teaspoon celery salt 4 tablespoons butter 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt 2 tablespoons flour Salt to taste 2 tablespoons chopped onion 6 ounces Kraft Velveeta 1/2 cup evaporated milk 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh jalapeno peppers 1/2 cup vegetable liquor 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Red pepper to taste Cook spinach according to directions on package. Drain and reserve liquor. Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Add flour, stirring until blended and smooth, but not brown. Add onion and cook until soft but not brown. Add liquid slowly, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until smooth and thick; continue stirring. Add seasonings, peppers and cheese which has been cut into small pieces. Stir until melted. Combine with cooked spinach. This may be served immediately or put into a casserole and topped with buttered bread crumbs. The flavor is improved if the latter is done and kept in refrigerator overnight. This may also be frozen. Serves 5 to 6. Spinach Madeleine is an extremely versatile dish. It can be served with crackers as an appetizer, as a side dish or even as a main course when stuffed in a tomato!...See MoreCompany X-mas parties, and other X-mas functions
Comments (7)I look at work parties as part of the job. If your boss invited you to his house for dinner, you wouldn't refuse, right? I go, make my rounds with the staff and any clients we may have in attendance, have a cocktail and a few appetizers and head home after about an hour or two. Although I like my work, I do not consider my coworkers "friends". And I would never take a significant other, even if I had one. As I said, I consider these events extensions of work, not part of my social life. As to too many invitations? Heck yeah. But I decided a few years ago that I would limit myself to five parties in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That is one work party and one fun party each week. If I am having a particularly stressful week, I will just not stay at the party very long....See MoreXmas is over...
Comments (25)We had a great two days. Christmas Eve afternoon hubby and I assembled the breakfast strata and baked oatmeal pineapple cookies. I made them about half the size as usual and ended up with seven dozen cookies, six of which are in the freezer for future treats. On Christmas morning, the traditional breakfast strata was served with a fruit salad. Both were delicious. The fruit balanced out the richness of the strata and was just right. Hubby took a nap after breakfast while I puttered around in my studio cleaning out drawers and organizing my supplies and tools. Always like to have a fresh start for the new year. The Christmas stocking was a big hit as were the stocking stuffers. It was totally unexpected so there was a wonderful element of surprise. The funny thing was that hubby didn't notice it sitting on the wood stove even though he walked by it several times. I finally decided I'd have to move it, so placed it in his computer chair while he was napping. There was no way he'd miss it in that location! After he got up, we prepared out prime rib with a rub of rosemary, garlic, sea salt and coarse ground black pepper. We have a rosemary bush out in the yard and it was fun to go out and pick a sprig to use in the rub. The prime rib was just fabulous. Tender and flavorful, but not too much fat. It was better than most prime ribs I've had in restaurants. We rounded out the day with a sappy Christmas movie after dinner followed by a couple of Law and Order reruns....See More- 7 years ago
