Blue paint color that will go with this accent tile?

This blue accent tile is being used with white subway tile (whisper gray grout between the subway tiles). White vanity, floors are a dark charcoal gray tile.

Trying to come up with a blue (or bluish gray) wall paint that complements the accent tile, but doesn't also look too dark and dreary with the dark gray floor tile.

Any ideas?

Depending on your natural and installed lighting you might choose something from the whites collection of your brand of choice, or you might go into the blue/grays of a collection. Do you have any natural light? Are your light fixtures installed yet? You would want to have your fixtures installed and the light bulbs in before choosing the color. If you are doing whole walls, I'd go light. But if you have something like white painted wainscotting on the lower walls and drywall above you can go bolder/darker. A lot of it depends on lighting. Could you post pictures of what's going on in the rest of the room?

becktheeng, Can I ask what blue you used? Yesterday afternoon I ran out to the paint store, because I just couldn't wait. We have fluorescent lighting in our kitchen (not my favorite for color) and so picked blue/greens with that in mind I thought all fluorescents looked the same, but these compact fluorescents gray down the colors that I chose. That doesn't make sense to me, because I thought fluorescent light made blues and greens pop more. The BM Bird's Egg is very gray in our light, the Peacock Blue ditto, and the only one which pops a little is the Water Drops. I love the Simply White in our kitchen - it has just the right amount of warmth in it. I am attaching a link I just found - Popular Mechanics posted tests on Fluorescent Lighting and color. They show different bulbs with a grid array of colors. Unfortunately, the color I like, blue/green, doesn't fare too well. I am still going to try changing my bulbs. I looked at your kitchen hoping for some inspiration, and was overwhelmed by the beauty of it. Since your blue is the tile, I guess you can't help with the paint. ps, I wish that I had the windows and view that your kitchen has! Just beautiful. The soapstone is so warm - and the glass tile backsplash is the blue I want. Sort of a greenish blue, like the ocean on a clear day. Your kitchen is looking fantastic. You can look for blue glass jars for q-tips and other toiletries and a tray for setting down wet objects on the vanity. Your idea of using the glass tiles to frame a mirror could look nice, especially since those are interesting, swirly colored glass tiles and they a re not small squares. What size are your glass tiles? Maybe going to a glass shop with the size you want for your mirror will give you some ideas on how to do it. They may have some idea whether to put the mirror and tiles on some kind of backer board versus applying the tile to the wall after the mirror is hung.

I"m not a great color advisor but IMO, the white isn't doing anything to enhance the house f you do all the trim white. Here's a nice one with cedar shakes, white and blue. The white makes all the other colors really stand out. NIce discussion of the color in the questions about this house

I think doing some computer imaging would be super helpful for you if that's something you have the tech skills and interest to take on. Some of the paint manufacturers have apps that let you "paint" an image of your own room to try out colors (not a substitute for testing colors in your own space since the app can only guess about light conditions, but it can help point you in the right direction). Some rug vendors (RugsUsa and eSale rugs, among others) let you visualize a rug in your space (they do a great job of sussing out what is furniture and what is floor and getting the perspective right). And I get a lot of mileage out of Microsoft Word in terms of creating collages of images, like layering the putty sofa over the top of the existing sofa, or layering in curtains or artwork. It's helpful to figure out how to remove backgrounds from images, make an image float over text so you can stack them, and how to reorder images so the curtains are on top of the wall and not under it. I did this with Benjamin Moore's personal color viewer. Colors are BM Tandoori and Elmira White.

We are not doing any wainscoting... fixtures are brushed nickel. I unfortunately have to make this decision tonight (long story)...

I have Upward and Lullaby SW 9136 chips here because I've been looking for a light blue gray with a touch of green. Lullaby is close to Upward but a little lighter and slightly greener. They were my favorites of the SW paints. I'm also interested in SW Niebla Azul 9137, which is the next shade darker on the Lullaby strip, but I haven't picked up the chip yet. I love Pale Smoke 1584 in Benjamin Moore. They have a lot more blues to choose from than SW. I'd want a touch of green in the paint with your turquoise tile. I'd go with a cleaner, brighter blue-green myself.

This was the bathroom before we replaced the shower. We had to rip out the wall behind the shower and replace it so while we were at it, replaced cheap tub and surround with better tub and tile and got a niche, and wanted a color pop. Didn't change existing floor tile or vanity as we couldn't afford to. There is some natural light from an old sunlight in the ceiling. Also here is an up close photo of the colors in the tile.

by the way, we also drywalled the ceiling which was previously wood paneling so ceiling is now white

I have Upward in my bedroom and I think it might be too blue for you. What about SW Icicle? It's on the same chip card, but lighter and I think would complement your darker tile well.

Thanks everyone...wound up having enough time to check the colors out in the bathroom in daylight and ended up picking Benjamin Moore's Ocean Air. It's amazing how much light changes blue colors to look so different in different lighting. I wouldn't have chosen this color originally as it seems more light turquoise, but seeing it in the bathroom and against the tile, it worked. Hopefully it still works once the walls are completely painted!

You do need some green because the tile has a green tone. It will look better with your floor tile than blue too.
