fyi -- I do believe that they call the "spring cactus" Easter cactus? Last year my 'spring' cactus' put out a plethora of lovely light pink flowers -- this year, none. :-( That is really odd regarding your "mutation" -- makes one wonder if some of these plants aren't "creations" of humans.

Interesting to see how many different opinions one plant can generate. Mentha, perhaps Xcacti are different but many plants -- particularly orchids and succulents develop a purple/red cast when growing at the upper end of their light limit. Growing them at that point is not necessarily a bad thing. Bleaching/burning, at least IME, general occurs when such limits are exceeded or, even more commonly, when plants have not been properly hardened off. I do see the one bleached/beige spot I believe you are talking about but if the plant was getting too much sun there would be more than just that one spot affected. So I would have to disagree with "too much light" I also don't believe I would up the pot size. However, a number of the segments do seem to be lacking in "plumpness". I would suspect a watering issue -- either insufficient watering, or too much water resulting in root loss.

Well, they're not dead yet, so I suppose that's some form of success. I have 6 cuttings going, but noticed they didn't seem to be doing so well. So I un-potted them and I think I found the culprit -- the soil was too moist. Most of my lovely roots had rotted away! So I remixed the soil, added a lot more perlite for drainage, re-dipped the cuttings in rooting hormone, and drenched them in a soil drench that is supposed to stop damping off disease. So we'll see if they make it. If not, the "Mother Plant" is doing absolutely beautifully, and I feel confident that what I learn from doing this will help me to propagate her properly down the road. And, Oh Yes, one additional section fell off while I was watering the Mother Plant the other day, so it is now in gel awaiting root development. I am nothing if not persistent! MacThayer

Hello Mike, just been looking at the plant at the top and noticed the pot it’s in, maybe when repotting time approaches it would be best suited to a wider, shallow style of container, half pots we call them here? That will give it more stability as the base of that white one is so very narrow and it’s a tall pot isn’t it, all very unstable. Would hate it to get smashed about again. I had a case of a falling down TC also....one that I rescued from mums house when she moved into the Home, placed it in a hanging basket, just sat the pot inside it, chain snapped and whole lot crashed to the floor. The plant was smashed to bits, one half completely gone off a full circle plant of about 2ft diameter. I was so sad.....but each and every severed piece rooted again, I now have two plants......and new chains! The mother plant is in the process of regenerating all it’s lost limbs from low down on the smashed main trunk, it will soon have filled in the lost half of the circle. Buds forming on both plants as I write, so all was not lost of my Special plant :-) Gill
