Comments (14)I didnt get back here last nite! Question first! Ian, is the 1/4 tsp. of yeast really correct, or is that a typo? That sure doesnt seem like much yeast for that much flour, or is that because its used in a starter? Ive never used a starter before! And do you know if it makes any difference to use regular or rapid rise yeast? I happen to have both around here right now. Jennifer, I really cant help with the high altitude question either! When I bake, which really isnt all that often, sometimes I "adjust" the recipe for high altitude and sometimes I dontand Ive really never been able to tell much difference, so mostly I dont anymore! Ive also noticed that when you use a mix, they usually call for a little bit more water and a little bit more flour, and that just doesnt make ANY sense at all to me. A little more of one or the other maybe, but BOTH! Whats up with that! I did find the site below with some good basic high altitude cooking info that might help you since youre so much higher than us "low landers!" Since Ians rolls are made with such a "wet" dough, I think Id try it just the way it is, making sure, as Ian says, that it seems wet enough. Comments (5)Eileen, oatmeal cookies are one of my favorites, although my kids always wanted buttterscotch chips in them instead of raisins. I did convince them raisins were OK when I started using chocolate covered raisins, LOL. I'll have to give your recipe a try, I like the recipes with old fashioned oats and a ratio of oats to flour that is at least equal, or more oats than flour. Comments (35)Believe it or not, the worms are probably a source of B12 which can prove to be important in the diets of vegans and vegetarians who have a hard time getting enough of this important nutrient. Nature gives us gnats/fruit flies, and weevils - which also provide B12 - and are commonly found in our food (usually unknowingly). Not all creepy/crawly things in nature are "bad", just a high "ick factor". I took a food class about vegan/vegetarianism from a woman who was a dietitian and a Seventh Day Adventist and she suggested these "add-ins" were important in their strict meatless diet; and it was also why vegans in third-world countries have less Pernicious anaemia. They are exposed to the bugs/worms/insects because they don't live in a world where everything cleaned and stored in Tupperware. Weevils in their meal and beans is a common thing that is just part of their diet. She even went so far as to suggest the next time a strict vegan was out for a bike ride and they encounter a swarm of gnats to be sure to swallow a few. An entomologists giving a class on "Pests In Your Pantry" also told the same thing about weevils in your food (which are a good source of protein and quite edible). Comments (24)@KSWL…I rried the apple tart. it is not pretty but it tasted very good. i am not much of a cook but i knew i had a box of puff pastry in the freezer so decided to try it. the recipe said 250 grams pastry and my box was 397 grams . so i saw it came in two squares so decided to use one. . i had not used this type of puff pastry in years so i forgot i had to roll it out. instead i separated the slices in the square and pressed them out on the parchments. then i followed recipe except used marmalade jam as that is what i had. like i said they taste great and in my opinion one large apple was enough except i did not have any for topping. i will try it again , next time rolling out the pastry. not preety but here it is...See Moremarcopolo5
