What Should I Place Over Sofa
Comments (40)I think your house is beautiful. No need to fill it up over night. A good design evolves over time. I like the brick tones in your fireplace and think the terracotta tones would be nice for the main color in the high ticket items such as the rug. Your original prints from Haverty's are pretty but too flat I think and you do not want to go for that 'furniture store' showroom look anyway. I do not think your clock is too large, it may look it with the close up shot, but from the viewpoint of the other rooms does it look too large to you? For larger candle sconces you might need to check antique stores and consignment shops. Check on Craigslist too, look for electrical that you can pull the wires from to change to candles. Sometimes they are listed as dining room sconces. Good luck with your project! You have a beautiful home....See MoreWhat to do with Blank Wall Space in Living Room+Hiding Breaker Panel?
Comments (18)To everyone who commented: Thank you!! Lots of ideas and things to consider here. Rearranging the furniture is something I haven't given much thought to. I did what I did because I like my sofa to be close to the tv (well, I'm nearsighted), and coming from a studio apartment, that's how it was previously - everything close together. So it's hard to change. Yes, I should eventually get a new tv stand. The tv is actually safe on the stand, as the tv legs are less wide than the stand itself and the stand is pure wood, so its construction is quite good. It's a relic of the tube tv days, but it worked for the new tv when I bought it a couple of years ago, so I didn't bother changing it. As to the stuff I have all around (especially in the corner) - those are things I want on display. They are model buses from England, many in their own display case. Eventually, I want to get a curio cabinet as I have a much larger collection not yet on display. As for the curtains, I chose that color because it matched the color of the wood floor and the wood furniture. But I may have to re-evaluate that also. I agree about having the curtain rod pulled out on top. However, if you look at the photo of the left side of the window, there's no space to install a curtain rod just to the left top of the window, as the original window frame and the corner of the wall are extremely close. If there's a solution to that, please post!! And thanks for the guide to hanging pictures...I will definitely be taking this info into consideration...I also have my bedroom to work on!! Thanks again!...See MoreLiving room grey and pink- need help with the right sofa
Comments (27)Beverly, I like the look you created. However, I just got the wall painted. It is a high ceiling so I cannot repaint myself. It is sand color (Wise Owl by Kelly Moore). I am hoping for the grey sofa, sand walls and brown floors to be the neutral colors that will not stand out. Only the blush/pink accents to pop. I did the opposite in the other room with brown floor, grey walls and brown sofa. and teal color for pop. Will light grey sofa achieve this goal better than dark grey?...See MoreHelp me make-over this Craigslist sofa please
Comments (106)I had a new custom sofa covered in velvet. The fabric did not wear well at all. It looked worn within a few months, even though it got little use When I complained I was told that velvet always wears poorly, and I'd agreed with the decorator's suggestion of velvet, so too bad. The shape of the back and arms, and cushion stuffing, were also very uncomfortable. I got rid of it as soon as possible, even thought it was sold to me as a forever piece, at a "forever piece" price....See MoreRelated Professionals
