Thank you! On the art, if it is framed, would you suggest a gold or silver frame? Would you suggest one large piece of art or two or three coordinating? Any color suggestions? This is a beach house.

Just select a wrapped canvas. No need to spend additional money on a frame.

I think the room could benefit from larger table lamps, and move the end tables about 4" or more from the edge of the sofa arms. No reason to squish everything together.

Without seeing the entire room, I would guess that your trouble pulling the room together and making it "warm and cozy" comes from playing it too safe and matchy-matchy with grey and metallic and neutral -- with the exception of your great rug (love!).

Pull a color or two from the rug and get that elsewhere in the room. Agree with Beverly on colorful art on the wall (unless you absolutely need a mirror because the room is dark -- in that case, a smaller mirror with a grouping of art) and on color in the lamps -- or even the end tables, if you are going to paint them. Perhaps throw pillows on the two sofas also.

Gold or brass will look good with the warm gray of the sofa. You could actually paint the silver tacks to a brass or gold if you wanted the change -- there is metallic paint made for use on metals.

Your rug is gorgeous but might be a little hard to pair with art. This is a framed scarf. Fabric would also work if you could find the right one.

I keep coming back to your follow up comment that "it's a beach house" and your earlier comment that you want to make it comfy. In a beach house, IMHO, the vibe is all about fun, sun, family, and friends. It's a less formal mood, and less concerned about what others may think. It's where everyone goes to play and recharge. The rug is moving in the right direction. Add a couple solid color throw pillows that pull out the bright colors of the rug. For the space over the couch, consider creating a gallery of photos - even black and white photos - of favorite moments or places at the beach. Metal or wood, the color of the frame, or even a frame at all is less important than what the picture(s) say to you and your family. I do like your idea of using pin up sconces instead of lamps. If you did that then you could be freed up to consider replacing one or both of the end tables with something more multi-purpose like a trunk on wheels that could store board games, etc. and be wheeled around in front of the sofa to do double duty as a coffee table when you're entertaining and then wheeled back and out of the way of the dog's stuff the rest of the time. Or you could have a hassock or ottoman, also on casters, to wheel around so you or your loved ones could kick your feet up.

Three piece Octopus Art....Now that can be interesting! Can't wait to see :-)

The triptych is too small in width and height. The colors are good but you would do better with a larger picture there.

I like your new lamps! Its too bad that the octopus painting isn't the ideal size. One option would be to use it as the focal point of a gallery wall. A layout similar to below would allow you to find pieces to surround the octopus; giving you the overall width you need. If this is something you'd consider...I would stick with a theme like nautical/blue tones.

I still think with your traditional elements any picture you choose would look better with a small or floating frame. It just looks more finished.

I think painting the end tables white would really lend to a less formal "beach house" feel and go nicely with your new pillows.

Here is an art suggestion. I think it would tie the grey of your sofa in very nicely.

I disagree with painting your tables but you should certainly get white lampshades for your new lamps. I'm surprised they didn't come with white shades--they look very yellow with the lights on and white or linen would be much better.

One thing that you could try would be to go to a fabric store and get a large piece of bold colored, textured fabric -- one without a really strong pattern, since you have that in the rug -- I am picturing something tweedy or nubby, with a strong dominant color but some multicolor woven in -- and make a large enough wall hanging. Hem it with hot glue or seam webbing, and get wood dowels at the hardware store for the top and bottom. This should be not expensive, so if you find a large piece of art or art grouping that you fall in love with you won't be reluctant to replace it.

The lampshades are white. I am not sure why they do not appear that way. I have no idea how to pick out new lampshades. I like the idea of framing the fabric. I am sincerely thankful for everyone’s ideas.

Maybe just change the light bulbs to a clear bulb.

If you want to try the fabric wall hanging, and really don't feel that you could attempt it, there is probably a seamstress or tailor, or someone who sews (although truly, sewing is not required) near you who could do it for you in less than 20 minutes.

I would bring in coral or gold colors from your rug in your art and pillows. I’m not crazy about the nav.y as an accen.

Can you post a pic of the rest of the room from a couple angles? The other side with the chocolate couch and...honestly,I can't quite get a bead on your style or what you want for the room. So more pics should help.

Off hand, I would replace those lovely but too tall tables,not paint them. And just because you have a pretty house at the beach does not mean you have to have octopi or coral on the walls. Unless you love them.

Part of the problem with your tables is they're too tall. They shouldn't be taller than the arms of the sofa.

Susan, yes they are too tall. They should ideally be no taller than than about one inch-maybe 2 inches-higher than the sofa arms. Yours are 6 or 8 inches taller than the sofa arms. Possibly look into having the legs shortened?

The end tables in your original post are too tall. They should be the same height or a hair lower than the arms of the sofa.
