what color rug to go with this new bathroom makeover? please help
Comments (0)i am re-doing my old bathroom and have picked out just about everything i want for my new bathroom. Finding a hot purple/magenta-ish rug has been super difficult to match the purpleish leaves in the shower curtain. I want the rug to go with the shower curtain and general feel of my bathroom. Can anyone recommend a color or online store or specific rug that they have in mind? It's been driving me crazy! The rug is the last thing I need to pick and its been the most difficult...See MoreFront door makeover, what color for the below door?
Comments (20)My3dogs, I can’t decide which I love more, your postcard New England cape nestled in the snow, or those two beauties looking out longingly at the yard ;) Now I need to go back and search up your threads to see pics of your interior!! My storm is metal and in rough shape. But maybe painting it would clean it up a bit. Do I paint both sides or should I leave the interior-facing side black? And I think everyone’s consensus was that the threshold gets painted black, correct?...See MorePlease Help Choose a Rug for Eclectic Basement Rec Room
Comments (21)Well the green rug arrived and we unwrapped it and put it in place today, and.... Sigh... I'm not in love with it. I'm trying to love it, but it's just okay. It's darker and drabber than it appeared in the listing photos, and is not as soft as I had hoped. I've ordered rugs online before and usually been pleased with the quality, but this one is a reproduction antique (which I realized after ordering it) and seems to be lacking in quality. It's not awful, it's just kind of blah. My husband feels the same way... He doesn't dislike it but doesn't love it either. I like that it's monochromatic and has a subtle pattern, but don't like that it looks kind of heavy and dark in the space. If the quality/feel were better I might be able to get over the color being darker than I'd hoped, and if it was super cheap I'd probably just make do. But it is returnable, and as much as I dread the idea of repackaging an almost 10x13 rug to send back I'm kind of leaning toward returning it. I guess I'll sleep on it, but would love your honest opinions. I think it might look better in the pictures than it does in real life. Here's the runner in the adjoining hallway that has a similar green in it. If I return this one, I'm not even sure what to look for color-wise. As much as I love green, it feels like too much in a large rug. I would love to find a neutral-ish wool rug that's soft and not difficult to clean. We have an Oriental Weavers wool rug in my husband's office that used to be in our living room that has stood up to a lot of abuse over the years from pets, so I'm open to non-antique rugs too. If anyone has any suggestions for brands or places to look, please let me know. Or maybe I should just look locally as now I'm nervous to order another large rug online....See MoreWhat paint color for this small basement room?
Comments (18)Thank you all so much for the input! > As to moody - will there be plennty of lighting? There is just the one window and probably some scattered light from the window in the other room. Not that bright. But the rest of the house is bright and open so I'm not afraid to make one room theatre-like. > Hard to image this fairly narrow open space as a guest room (a queen bed is 6 ft 8 inches long). Consider a convertable couch/bed to allow for more floor space and it can then also double time as sitting area. Yes indeed I will have a narrow sofa that will double as a narrow twin guest bed. I already built a custom wood frame for it and intend to sew a slip cover out of some dark upholstery fabric. > I would keep the white walls and just create an interesting focal wall. Once you add a rug and furniture, it will feel cozy without feeling cave like. I‘d create a calm, relaxing space and color can be injected with art and accessories. For this room I don't mind if it feels cave-like. I think I almost prefer it. There is a proper living room upstairs that I intend to leave bright white. > A slatted wood wall would add warmth and soft lighting will be important as well. Yes I keep coming back to a wood focal wall. Using all your input I created a moodboard which I'll share here. Following a 60-30-10 rule, 60% Farrow & Ball Railings/black, 30% gray, 10% green/wood/plants. I added in some neon signs just to see what that would look like. Indirect warm lamp light for lighting. Will avoid using the overhead lights. I intend to paint the ceiling, trim, doors, stairwell, risers, etc, in Railings. Anyone feel extremely strongly against that? I feel like leaving the white would be purposeless for what I'm going for. Missing from this photo is window treatment. I was thinking a sheer flow white/gray curtain. The image above shows 2 wood panel styles, ebony and dark stain. I think I prefer the dark stain. Any thoughts on that? Thank you all again. This is very helpful for me....See MoreRelated Professionals
