Why do you want to get rid of them? Are they no longer blooming?

All plants that grow from bulbs (such as Tulips and Lilies) propagate by producing new bulbs. Over time they become very crowded and stop blooming because there are too many of them for the available resources. So every few years, and it varies from every year to once every few years to once every several years and so on depending on species, you have to dig them up and thin them out. If they are really bad then maybe you would just keep one in four of them (the biggest ones) and replant them in the same spot. The rest (3/4 or so) you can plant elsewhere in your yard, give them to friends and neighbours, or even sell them. I hope this helps.

It did not dawn on me, but the prybar is actually the perfect bulb picker / lifter. It's long and narrow.

I can get down deep and hopefully will be minimal disturbance to the bulb adjacent. Well, I will either find out if doable and if not, eh, no biggie, I can deal with them when I do full on bulb refresh. Just not feeling the daffodils at all.

There's something called a drain spade, it's a long narrow shovel and I like it for digging bulbs, especially ones you're trying to dig from between a bunch of other stuff. If too much stuff comes up it's easy to tease out what you want to remove and then drop the rest right back in the hole.

Katob. Do have a drain spade. I hardly use it....it's got a commercial grade heavy fiberglass handle. I think the ~prybar~ actually might work better though. It's narrow in profile (for the dense bulb bed). Slimmer - so less resistance in dirt .

I was going to commision a blacksmith to custom make me a 14-16" 2 prong styl'ish tool with a short handle as a bulb lifter for my stash. I may still do that one day. Too tapped out on X'mas gifts.
