Bath remodel in home trimmed in oak

I am planning to gut our 1960 lime-green bath, which is very functional, but really hard on the eyes. The one challenge I am having is with the finish material/colors so that it does not seem out of place given that the rest of the house is completely trimmed out in golden oak trims, mouldings, and windows, which we are rather happy with.

We are in agreement that the base colors will be light natural earth tones. There will be an alcove tub tiled for use as a shower, and the tub/toilet will be biscuit.

Your thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated!

The only thing left in the bath will be the door, which is a golden oak 6-panel door with golden oak casing. I have thoughts of painting the bath side of the door.

The rest of the room will be gutted down to the framing.

Great job, and very brave of you. I really want to downsize our 2nd bathroom to a half bath because it opens directly into the sitting room and there's absolutely no sense of privacy. Removing the tub would allow much greater separation of the bathroom from the living space. We mostly use the 2nd bathtub to wash cat boxes and bird feeders, and wouldn't a utility sink in the basement be much better for that purpose? Our financial analyst and others caution us against the change because they think it would lessen the value of the house. Does anyone here have thoughts on that topic?

"Quote" I am not a big fan of "it's not the trend," or "it's not popular." That seems what decorators or merchants interested in selling their latest ware might parrot"unquote" I agree..... In our last last we replaced the carpet in our FR with brazillion cherry (seemed to be the trend at the time) and while it looked good I hated it, I missed the carpet in there. The house we are in now we just replaced the carpet in FR with new carpet , a nice plush frieze . The kitchen has custom oak cabinets which I didnt like at first , but after a year , I'm starting too like them.

Beth H. As pretty as your bath is, I also love your black kitty cat! I had a black cat for 12 years until he died, and could not get anymore because of my children's allergies to cats. I have a large skylight over my whirlpool tub in my own home and love it. I could do a big shower if I took that whirlpool out, but I happen to be one of those rare persons who uses their whirlpool all the time. In the home I'm remodeling, could I just do an accent in the niche and eliminate a stripe? The new build homes around my area all seem to have accent borders either vertical or horizontal. I agree with Tatts above about borders being like wall paper borders, only problematic to change. I just not have been in one new build home, not model home, but hew builds for sale that have not had accent tiles in every single bathroom. I don't have them in my own home, so I didn't really know. Your accents are so tastefully done, but also in your master.

Thank you! The new interior doors are fir (not installed yet). Red oak flooring. Alder mission-style kitchen cabinets. Black leather stools. Existing interior trim ranges from white to a very light, low grade beige trim to oak (kitchen picture attached) to fir (living room picture attached) Thank you. House built in 1967 and has been partially remodeled at least two times.

Russ J, my house was built in 1988 but it has that ubiquitous golden oak throughout it too. My hall bathroom entrance door and closet door are 6 panel golden oak, the 96" vanity is golden oak and the window is trimmed in golden oak. I will be remodeling that bathroom in February. I am replacing the vanity with a painted one. I am removing the 96" long plate glass mirror and replacing it with 2 framed mirrors. I am removing the fiberglass/acrylic tub/shower and replacing with a cast iron tub/shower. So I'm almost gutting the room but I am keeping the doors and trim as they are.

I am going to use a MSI's Pietra Calacatta matte porcelain tile for my floor and tub surround. I chose the Calacatta version because it has golden streaks in it that I think plays nicely with the oak. The painted cabinet color that I picked out is called Cashmere. I guess it would be considered a greige with green undertones. Here's a couple pictures of my choices.

The countertop will be either Cambria Kirkstead or Cambria Whitehall. I know mosaic is not favored by most on GW but I am going use it anyway for the backsplash. I love the bit of sparkle and contrast it will add.
